Ladies and gentlemen please please have your cat fight elsewhere I could start a new thread if you wish, but can we just talk about the attempts to rebuild the squad here and any players we may or may not be getting in.

P.S. I think I saw Ameobi in ASDA car park earlier

    Absolutely nailed it ZK <ok>
There are ample threads for football, jokes, cricket, any other business, and yes, even politics but this one says in big letters "SUMMER TRANSFER 2017" at the top.
Unless it can be kept on track, without endless veiled / barbed references to lawyers, other peoples wives etc, it will be locked immediately and the protagonists will have to attend Sheringham carnival this week to watch Resurgam ballet dancing in his pink tutu <yikes>
    You have been warned. <grr>

Sound logic from the gaffer - makes you wonder why it never occurred to Neil, Darnborough etc that there's far better value to be had in foreign leagues. Not rocket science, is it? With all the money swilling around the English game of course people will be greedy on transfer fees for home-grown players.

“We had to initiate a major upheaval, lower the wage bill and sell some of the top performers to try and get a transfer surplus. If we succeed, it looks better again for us in the coming years,” he said. “That is why our focus is not on players from the English leagues. You must know where to look for value. You get very good German second-league players at good prices, which are affordable. That’s why we have brought in people like Vrancic or Franke.

Bloomin' heck. I missed a night of action on here! That seemed to escalate quickly! Hopefully you guys have slept the alcohol and hornyness off.

    Back on topic.

Huddersfield Tell Nahki Wells he can leave. I still think with his pace, high work-rate and finishing. He'd really add to our squad. 1 year left on his contract and out of the managers thought. Surely worth putting in a low starting bid?

I think Fonkeu has filled the third striker slot. Wells' 10 goals in 47 appearances was hardly impressive, given what we'd have to pay for him and his wages. I'd rather keep Jerome.

Fonkeu is surely yet another signing for the youth set up?

We still have just 2 tried and tested centre forwards in the squad , seems a bit risky for a long arduous Championship season.

Yea, exactly my opinion. I think we need 1 more, and from the options, I think Nakhi Wells.

Given that Watkins and Wildschut can play as strikers as well, I still doubt that SW and DF would want to spend big on Wells. Fonkeu is 20, like Maddison.

Wildshut looked very comfortable on the right wing but Marley may be good enough to play in a 3-5_2

I think we scored over 60 goals in the Championship last season (I KNOW someone will come up with the exact number) and if my memory serves me correctly, FEWER than 30 were scored by our 2 strikers, so why worry about ONLY having 2 strikers???

I thought about this the other day. When you factor in the goal contributions from (last season) Pritchard, Howson, Naismith, both Murphys, Wessi etc, we were not overly reliant on CJ and NO for goals - and as Farke prefers a more fluid 4-1-4-1, or even 3-5-2, that allows more players to get into advanced and dangerous positions than plodding along religiously, every sodding week, with a tired and tested 4-2-3-1 system favoured by his predecessor <ok>

The stats for this argument are actually better as last season we scored 85 goals, which was equal top with Newcastle and Fulham, with the strikers contributing around 30 of those. This is always likely to be the case with teams using a sole striker. Newcastle and Fulham used 2 strikers much of the time to reach 85 goals. With Watkins looking capable of replacing Jacob's 9 goals and 6 assists (he had 10 goals and 7 assists for Barnsley last season) and Wildschut capable of more than his single goal last season and Vrancic and Reid replacing Howson and Dorrans, this may well be true this season as well. DF's possession football could also help maintain this scoring rate overall while also taking pressure off the defense. A third striker is really protection against injuries though Watkins and Wildschut may be deemed sufficient cover for that. With Maddison excelling against Brighton, we seem to have the midfield options to provide the flexibility and scoring needed.
