Can definitely see your point of view, but don't think there are many who think 'everything's ok'. Just might not be as bad as we are talking it up to be. I guess we'll know in a week or so but my point was a bit of positive self -promotion of the club and the city in next 2 weeks COULD make a difference to who arrives and stays

It's easy to say don't have the clause, but these were likely put in 4 years ago and without them I doubt they would've signed.
We had an option to offer Curtis, Huddlestone and Tymon contracts that would have probably seen them stay. But we didn't bother in sufficient time and instead made token offers which left them in no doubt about how 'wanted' they were.
Huddlestone only signed his deal last summer, so it was obviously put in then.
Curtis also signed his last year.
Tymon is the only one I was gutted about going. I never thought Tom warranted being one of our highest earners
The release clause protects the player, the relegation clause protects the club.

We weren't talking about whether we're gutted they've gone or not. Personally I wouldn't be gutted about a single one of our players going. Harry is the biggest lost, as unlikely as it was to keep him if we'd managed the club correctly he could've been our captain for the next 5 years and a club legend.

Exactly. You can't expect a player to agree to a massive drop in wages without giving them something in return, i.e. a way to get out and get back on higher wages.

I was suggesting his comment that one of the main reasons players was leaving for pl clubs was wrong as to date only one senior player has signed for one. It wasn't a quibble. More players have signed for spl and championship clubs.
Ehab has confirmed it's club policy for new contracts to have this clause.
However, what he didn't say was whether this applied only when we were a PL club or if it's also going to be a non-negotiable clause for players they're trying to bring in now (eg in case we're relegated to league 1).

Clearly because the players aren't that good. The original point was that I don't believe it's a fire-sale. We're getting decent value

For the optimists, if we have a losing mentality at the club then you want to clear them all out before signing new players so the philosophy doesn't get passed on.
For the pessimists (and probably the realists), by clearing out all your old before bringing in the new, it looks like rats leaving a sinking ship and doesn't help attract new players.

Ye, bit of both for me really. Ideally we'd have brought a few more players in by now. People wouldn't have given two ****s about Tom going then. If we can sign 3-5 (optimistic) this week, people will be talking about promotion again
Hang on, one minute you're saying the players leaving are going to premier league clubs, then when it's pointed out to you that they arn't you claim it's because they're not good enough.
Anyway the bottom line is that players of varying ages and experience we had in the Premier League are leaving. The players we have been linked to are comparatively bottom end cheapies, not one rumour of a blow your socks off signing and the for sure 4 good loans from chelsea are still to be sorted.
