Our next holiday will now have to be delayed, owing to the planned treatment, but getting her well again (please) is what is important.
I'm actually surprised that she hasn't yet suggested delaying the treatment, and I expect she will, in the not too distant, future suggest it.
I'm not yet sure how bad things are, but the speed we are moving at towards the PET scan and chemo is alarming, and the specialist was very quick to agree, when I told my wife that our holiday would have to wait.

So Jodie Whittaker is new Dr Who. Have never been someone actively thinking we should have a female Dr Who....always been a man, so never got my knickers in a twist about it. However, pleased with Jodie as a choice....good actress....I can live with that.

The fuss on Twitter is amazing, though :emoticon-0136-giggl So many men (and some women) saying that Dr Who is obviously a man and what if Wonder Woman changed to a man... Well, then he'd be Wonder Man. Strangely enough, "Doctor" isn't gender specific... When they're asked why The Doctor should be a man, they never answer. Like Fran, I wasn't particularly bothered either way and I'm so far behind on my watching that Matt Smith is still the Doctor :emoticon-0111-blush so it's quite possible that the actor will have changed again before I catch up!

Hope they have a POC next as the doc, even more crazy have a WOC. People will go crazy

I think some still have a 50's mind set, where pretty much any Dr (not just the Time Lord type) was by definition a man.

Not me. I'm against a female doctor though.

You wouldn't see the likes of James Bond as a woman... for me, the doctor should be a male. Just as iconic as the likes of Bond.
 
As I said, I was not pressing for a female Dr Who as I accept that he has always been male, but I like the woman they have chosen for the role. It is an interesting role and I look forward to seeing how it works out....remember with the Doctor it is never the final manifestation....so no harm done. As for James Bond....no need to make the role female as a new character altogether could be created. Dr Who has sagged recently, but the last few episodes have been much stronger.
 
i'm disappointed they've bowed to pressure and made the Doctor female. It will be interesting to see how it turns out, will she be confused as she is now a female? Might be quite funny. I thought Missy was excellent but then I never thought of her as the Master.

The Master killed Missy so that she couldn't regenerate, but she was the Master....so he effectively killed his future self. And he didn't know when this would affect him as Missy refused to tell him which reincarnation she was. My head hurts.

Yes, the series had not always been at it's best over the last few years though I feel sorry for Peter Capaldi as he was just starting to really get to grips with the role. I think he's suffered from having less continuity/episodes per year than previous 'new' Drs. When first re-introduced both Eccleston and Tennant had a fairly rapid succession of good stories.

Not really a kid's programme any more...be interesting to see stats about its viewers....suspect the average age is quite high. It's been a constant in my life since I was small....though there was a gap in the middle. The plots are much more complex now...and at its worse was nearly unfathomable....being too clever for its own good. However, the genius of it is that if it goes down a cul-de-sac the plot allows it to take one mighty bound and break free. The Doctor can be anything the writers want him/her to be.

Whilst I wouldn't push for a female doctor....as I hate it when things are so PC that it clunks, but don't see a problem. I have thought before how views have changed. When I was young, female characters rarely (if ever) were the lead characters and we all accepted that...probably couldn't even imagine being interested in a female hero...but now there is no problem. Dr Who has always had female characters...mainly as a foil to the male Doctor. This could be interesting. I hope it is a success...mainly because I suspect the most vigorous opponents are probably the type of person I'd avoid in real life.

As said, in the end, it's just a TV programme.
