Mason was signed for a club record and Marshall for an incredible £5m, we could have got Joe Hart for half that, the other targets were all flops which is probably why we didn't sign them.
And both were signed, in the the 'weeks of frustration' to which you refer.
For the record nobody gives a **** about the second hand information on signings by other clubs that you copy from other sites/news forums and newspapers and re-hash as news.

Weeks of frustration?

Hours of frustration more like, they were all signed the same ****ing day.

Joe Hart ffs. <doh>

Nah, Kuciak was nowhere near 1.5m, circa 300k (tops) I think was reported.
Don't believe all you read in newspapers, even if he only cost us his air fare and wages it was money thrown down the drain and one to put in the file 'dodgy dealings'. Totally unnecessary signing, even the man himsled said eh didn't

Yeah Joe Hart, England's goal keeper who was looking for a Premier League club at the time we forked out £5m for Marshall. He spent the season on loan, wages only, in Italy. Point being I don't think he'd be on £5m a year do you ? And do you think the Mason and Marshall deals were done and dusted on the spur of the moment on the same day, FFS ?

They sold him for £7.5m, but I'm not sure if that included the £6m loan fee, or not.
And from memory didn't he basically go on strike until they agreed to let him go?

So a great success then.
Yes I'm sure they paid 13 million and then let him go for half that after he'd had a good first season.
He went for a whacking great contract. So I imagine Sunderland would have got a good deal for him.
But carry on.

At the start of last season he was on just over 7m a year. So yes. Torino also paid a decent loan fee for him.

Bruce's striker signings for us...

Proschwitz
Gedo
Graham
Long
Jelavic
Sagbo
N'Doye
Hernandez
Akpom
Diomande

Overall, they're fairly poor, we did get one decent pairing in there, but sadly it only lasted half a season.

Thanks for the advice.

My point being that there's a big difference between a 1.5m flop and a 300k (ish) flop - especially at money-mad club like ours.

Bruce didn't seem to trust Jak fully and it was always possible that McG would get injured, so I understand the move in bringing in DK. It's just that he wasn't needed in the end.

Not all signings work out.

Alright, not Joe Hart then, my original point was that £5m for a goal keeper from the Championship was excessive.

It is in hindsight, at the time Marshall was one of the most highly rated keepers in the league. It was totally unnecessary given what we had but it must've looked like a good signing from the management point of view; there was no faith in Jak or McGregor and Kuciak was nowhere to be seen. Mannion was still dipping his toes into reserve football. I can understand why we did it, it's only in hindsight that it looks like a daft move.

Overall they're loans or cheap options.
Surprise surprise, given money he signs good forwards. Long and jelavic and Hernandez.
It's not ****ing rocket science is it.
