Explaining the sale, Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber: "Jonny, via his agent, made it very clear during my first week in the job he didn’t want to be here and wanted to move back to the north.
"We spoke about a new contract but he was insistent.
"Jonny is a good guy who was great for this club but sometimes you have to accept it becomes about getting the best deal for the football club."

I think we can all live with him leaving and with his reasoning. I think though we all think the reported £6m is too cheap. The only good thing is if we have received it all up front, enabling us to spend it right quick. Can't help but think we'll be kicking the board At the end of the season as borough go up.

Bah!

If I was part of an attacking line up that scored enough goals to get promoted but held back by a **** defence , the club backing Martin for the next few years I would probably jump ship too.

It's inevitable he will score against us with a screamer :emoticon-0101-sadsm Sad he's gone but if he wanted to go then there's not much you can do. Just wish it was to a premier league club than to a rival.

If he doesn't want to be here then he should fl@@k off! Just that.

If a player wants to move, there's nothing DF or anyone could do to stop it. As much as nearly all of us would rather he stayed, as an article on MFW stated the other day, we should say thanks and wish him all the best.

I know it's only HITC but this would be deeply disturbing if true! Keep your hands off Nelson you buggers! No mention of price (If there's even a shred of truth to this about 62p and a mars bar knowing us!) Like I say ****C so probably no truth to it!

Bah!

Just my opinion, but, I thought he didn't do enough in so many games last season, drifted in and out, and at times when we needed a leader in midfield he was anonymous!

That has got to be BS?! Why are we selling all the best players as well now!? We need to build a whole new squad without spending any money at this rate! Then praying they settle and gel instantly!

Reported that Reading would have to part with at least £7m to get Oliveria. So with CJ being touted with getting out and now Basil, is this 'rumour' all to do with money? Michael Bailey I hope you are right.

This statement from Webber suggests Bailey is right.

But with our Club, I wouldn't bank on it. I wouldn't be surprised if we sold CJ and Olivera, and only bought in a young loan striker to start the season with Morris as our striker options.

There's an EDP article today slating Howson for being unprofessional when the players came back to training. Really surprised to hear that as he's always seemed a model pro.

Webber has also confirmed we're still looking to sign a LB, CB and replacement for Howson. That looks like the minimum signings we need for a functional squad, any other movements probably rely on someone throwing money at one of our "undesirables".

From the match report in today's EDP - "The Portuguese striker has been strongly linked with Reading in recent days but it is understood those reports are wide of the mark and City are not interested in selling the striker.!!!"
Where d some of these stories originate????? <doh>

At the end of the day every player has his price.

So what if its bollocks? If it was like £8m or £10m he would be gone.

Just depends if anyones going to pay thay price.
