Grayson?

****ing hell - what ambition.

They've only been relegated a couple of months and already they now seem an entrenched mid-table Championship club.

At least they have got a manager who has done things here, we have gone for a manager from Russia who's good things are, a mate of Roman Abramovich, learnt English in 6 months and has watched loads of games on the telly.

TWT if he's any good for us, just as it did with Marko Sliva.

Got to say I expected Slutsky to be a more in yer face manager than he seems to be right now.

Silva came in with a plan and a list of his own players - many of them we had never heard of. I thought Slutsky would have his own quality foreign signings lined up too, but the mediocre domestic targets being mentioned are more like the types I would have expected Phelan to go for.

Most of the time I'm proved wrong and I hope I am this time too, but I'm hoping The Slut will start to assert himself soon.

Do you think Sunderland use us as any kind of yardstick?

But to honour your needless comparative, I’d say Slutsky’s appointment shows a lot more ambition: did very well with CSKA against the odds; managed his national team and qualified a ****e Russian side for Euro 16.

What exactly has Grayson done that so much supersedes Slutsky's stock?

Sacked by Huddersfield, sacked by Leeds, done ok with PNE and Blackpool.

Wow.

I'm less convinced by the day.

Not sure what exactly you're measuring his tenure on so far, but seems a bit harsh.

Were you 100% convinced upon appointment, then maybe after he used the wrong verb tense in an interview, you've dropped your confidence rating on a daily level?

My thoughts are, we interviewed many potentials after Bruce left and a deal couldn't be done (for whatever reason) Phelan got the job because he was the only one who wanted it. When that went tits up we went outside of the box to get Silva when there were a number of PL relegation battle hardened managers available. Now we have gone even further afield to find this guy, why is that?

TWT. But he's not hit the ground running.

Fair enough if that’s your thoughts about Slutsky and the like, but my post was specifically about Sunderland appointing Grayson.

Sunderland are a big club but Grayson is a lower league manager– it’s just interesting how they have now cut their cloth so soon after going down. It sets out the intent that they're aiming for plod rather than promo.

Phil Brown has a miles better managerial record in this division than Grayson, yet I’d imagine he’d have been laughed off.

Gut feeling.
I was hopeful but now think we have just got someone in who is so keen to be here he will overlook the lack of investment.
It's less about him than the general state of affairs.

I could be totally wrong.

Wow.

Grayson's not a bad appointment, he's just an uninspiring one.

Which is what I was saying.

Although I'd suggest for a team like Sunlun, who have just come down too, it borders on a bad appointment.

I actually think he'll do 'ok' as he normally does, he'll steady the ship but I can't see that satisying their fans. He's experienced but has never been close to being promoted to the PL, nor has been in the PL before.

I can't help but think there must have been better options for them, even if they were getting desperate - Phil Brown would have been a better appointment.

Slutski's a big time failure.

He's been at the helm for months now and he's achieved the sum total of **** all squared.

I thought Silva was an overhyped leotard but at least the **** won some games.

Slutski's won **** all, signed **** all and done **** all.

Oh, sorry. He's sent me an email and eaten breakfast in a Chelsea TravelTavern.

He may argue he's still unbeaten and he's only got half a team :)

I think his determination to succeed will push the club on,i also think he has players lined up who he may have worked with before.

He has not come here to look a fool i happen to think his pride will not let him fail he will want to be the first successful russian manager here and he will build a very good relationship with players and fans.

People in his country are and will be watching him.

Just my view.

To be honest I think your right, I know it seems same old Ehab but there's no way slutsky came here without any assurances. Also Ehab knows we aren't worth a **** in the championship, he wants out and the only way he gets that is selling a pl club.

Maybe I'm giving Ehab a bit more credit than I should or I'm grasping at straws I don't know
