Whether we sign them or not, our transfer negotiations are an ongoing embarrassment compared to other clubs who just get players signed like that.

Well, we don't have the same sort of money that City, Chelsea, PSG, Real etc have, so we have to negotiate rather than just get held to ransom like those clubs.

Selling clubs want top dollar because they know the Sugar Daddy clubs are out there, so they come out with figures like £130m for Mbappe. Also the president of Lyon is a gobby **** and has been coming out with different comments about Lacazette almost every day, trying to drive up the price. So it's not surprising that he's talking about a bid from Arsenal.

I'm encouraged that we've made a bid and negotiations are ongoing.

I agree it's frustrating but Everton are not going to sign Mbappe, Lacazette or Lemar. Those players demand top prices, so unless we want to do a City and get ripped off then we have to negotiate.

I think your problem is more down to the wages top players expect, that is showing with Ozil and Sanchez now.
Liverpool have a similar problem when going for top end players and Spurs will start to feel it when some of their players realise what they could earn elsewhere.
Sad but true, you get screwed on fee and then have to pay top wages to get the player.

My fiver would be on the player's agent or even the club themselves "accidentally" let slip that you have bid for him, in an attempt to spark a bidding war. They don't bother doing this when the player has his heart set on playing for a particular club, or when the negotiating club will simply up the bid until the selling club says yes.

The fact that there are bigger fish out there than Arsenal, and that the player is hot property after yet another deadly season, leads me to believe that Lyon are trying to draw one of the big guns into the equation. United are looking for a new striker, as are Chelsea. Bayern and PSG could also be interested. All of them can offer CL football, higher wages than you and probably a higher fee too.

I can see both sides of the story. I think that years of poor transfer negotiations have left a sour taste in fans minds. However, they are showing a great deal more ambition than they used to and are trying to sign big players. I think that C.Kane has hit it on the head with his assumptions. It's become a lot more difficult nowadays with so many factors that have complicated transfers, which was simpler years ago. I'm not excusing our negotiating staff, as i think we need some sort of overhaul to match modern day practices, but we have to accept that things have become a lot more complicated.

Sooner or later some financial regulation has to be brought to football otherwise things will get out of control.

It isn't working very well and more regulations need to be brought in like player wages, agent and transfer fees etc.

The reason for this is to stop the artificial juicing of financial situations. Look at us, we've done it the right way but instead of leading the way, we are now left behind. What kind of incentive is there when you can get rich from a sugar daddy and then buy all the best players?

Agreed a fee with Marseille and terms with the player, everyone was happy and for once it looked like we were bringing our targets in early. 6 weeks later, its deadline day and the transfer still hasn't been confimed. Finally came through at noon on deadline day. Why? Because Marseille were in well documented financial dire straits and were simply using us as juicy bait in the hope that someone bigger would swoop in and double the offer.

My heart sank when I read that you had bid for Lemar. He's a playet I'd love to see at Spurs but reality dictates that if you really want him, you'll get him. We can't compete with you in terms of fees and wages, so unless the player has a streak of masochism in him and wants to experience a failed CL campaign, there's no reason to think he'd sign for us.

In exactly the same vein, if United now step in for Lacazette, you don't stand a chance. Wenger and the board will know what their highest bid can be, United will still meet it and raise the bar out of your reach. This is precisely what Lyon want to see happen.

Lazarus is 100% correct. The money in the game is beyond a joke nowadays. I've long argued that policy should be introduced to curb agents' power and cap the % they take from transfers. I also think that we need to start thinking about limiting how many players a club can buy or sell in a single window (the latter in particular - this is a seller's market). This would go someway towards limiting the amount clubs spend. It would also prevent the likes of Southampton and Monaco being raped every window. I don't think its possible to cap actual transfer fees in a free market economy. But there are so many other norms that need to be ended:

- no more buy-back clauses
- no more hoarding dozens of players only to send them out on loan
- no more loans with an option to buy

And so on. All the chicanery that allows 5-6 clubs to dominate the game on a global level.

That would prevent the stock piling of players as you can't buy/sell too many.

However i think that would send transfer fees astronomical. You will now have more money to spend on less players.

I agree, some of the clauses they put in contracts is ridiculous, as is player/agent power. We need to have a look at the way football is run and make it a more fairer system, rather than to benefit the few. But the passion from football is being sucked out and replaced by money. Everything is dominated by money and even we talk about it on this forum. If you look at the Arsenal forum, a huge percentage is dedicated to just talking about our finances. The very thing has become synonymous with modern day football.

We take soo long, the lack of decisiveness is the main issue.I dont want to see another Summer where we miss our main targets and end up panic buying on the final days of the window.

Soo how do people feel about the prospect of an Aguero swap for Sanchez?

Personally I think Sanchez is the better all rounder but a fit Aguero is best Goalscorer in the league. In fact statistically he''s the best EPL striker since Ronaldo/Henry. But he is 28 so who knows how many big seasons he has left.

If Sanchez were to go we would need to replace both his goals and his creativity.

Lemar and Aguero would do that.

Lemar Aguero and Mbappe though..that would be a title winning front three.

Arsenal try and sign Lemar from Monaco. Dither, negotiate, dither, negotiate, offer lower than what they want, offer rejected, dither, "well we tried folks but the only player available was Wilshere who is like a new signing."

I suspect that Monaco want to retain Lemar more badly than
they did for Silva (hence the ease of movement in that transfer) .
And if they are going to have to lose players such as Mbappe
and Lemar this summer, they will seriously rinse the buyer.
