You actually raise an interesting point. Most Scots are nationalists, but this should not be confused with racists. But I'll grant you that there are a lot of racists in Scotland, but their focus is on one country - england. This is disappointing, I have to say, and embarrassing. But like any extremists, they do not speak for us all. In Scotland, it's no problem what your race or religion is, unless you're Protestant or Catholic. But let's not go there.

Btw, small piece of advice if you go to Scotland. There are a lot of people who will stab you if you call them Jock, and believe that they are 'defending themselves'. And it's not just down to the racists. I have friends who would do it without flinching & btw, they are not happy with my moniker here, to put it mildly. Sad but true, and a useful bit of advice to adhere to. But fortunately, only a small minority, so if you slip up, there's a good chance you won't trouble the NHS.

LOL. There are very few names that offend me. When you've been a fat kid at school, it's water off a duck's back.

I have to say that the strength of feeling for this 'Jock' thing must be fairly new. It was my mate who lives up there that told me about the sea change a few years ago. And it's prolly in the most unlikely rural places that you'd be in the worst trouble. Very embarrassing.

The subject only arose because I used the term myself when away on a Tartan Army trip. Apparently Scots can get stabbed for saying it too!
