This isn't good news, we need to keep hold of the most talented ones, hopefully Farke can persuade him that we now have a youth based policy of getting the younguns in as soon as they are ready. Surely he can have a greater chance of progress with us, Leicester will be farming him out on loans for longer than us being in the PL. That said they'll probably pay him more so he'll be gone soon no doubt :steam:

Bah!

Surely the whole point of a club like ours having a youth policy is so we can sell the players on, for large sums of money, so that we can improve on our most vulnerable areas, thereby increasing the strength of the whole team i.e. the Southampton way.

Absolutely canario and it would be good if we can start to see some returns on our investments in these youngsters over the past few years. As SW/DF have said, everyone has a value where it would be silly not to 'cash in'. IMO, I'd quite like to keep Jacob at least until the January window, when we could probably get even more for him.

How many youth prospects have made it to the first team since Chris Martin?
We are not exactly a production line of talent and having a few Norwich fans as players gives us a soul.

In the case of Jacob, yes.
In the case of Ashley-Seal (which was linked), losing bright young talents because their contracts expire is bad news. I think we'd still get a tribunal fee? But probably not a significant one.

Interesting that Dmitri Halajko is now at Leicester. I thought he was let go around February, I didn't realise he'd effectively been poached.

We've never been great at it because it was never a serious priority, and we were hampered by rules on youth recruitment which gave us a much smaller catchment pool then most clubs. The youth team got cut to the bone when we were in dire financial straits, and it's only since our Lambert PL stint, and acquiring Cat. 1 status, that we've given the academy what it needs to start producing players capable of making the first team. Martin, Shackell, Green were closer to flukes that came through despite the old system, rather than because of it. Hopefully in the next few seasons we'll start to see the benefits of the investment in youth. The Murphy's are the first signs of that, Ashley-Seal, Middleton, etc are the next batch with a decent chance of stepping up.

Yes, I feel that there are several who did so well last season to get to 2 finals and lose in both and wouldn't be surprised to see 4 or 5 given an opportunity if we can muster a decent run in the Carabao Cup.

Josh and Jacob have had a decent shout last season. That's a lot better than pretty much all of our last god knows how many season. Like a fair few, I would have loved to see Toffolo and Morris as part of our first team squad/rotation. Godfrey as a Bench player who starts Cup Games and gets minutes in the latter stages would have been perfect. But still, the twins getting the minutes they did was an improvement. Hope it continues to escalate.

If we sell the Murphys to bolster our war chest then blow another £8m on a midfielder I won't be best pleased

I wouldn't sell Jacob for under 10M This is the peak of his hype. If we accept a bid of like 6-7M for him, I'll be so livid. Even with addons. He looks the read deal. I'm sure he could be a Premiership starter in future. The Premiership gets so much more money each year. If we sell him, It should only be for 12-15M. Which should put most clubs off.

Redmond will double in price Murphy is better in my opinion

I'm certain we'll see more of those two next season and Efete as well as Godfrey are also ready to step up.

Agreed and Murphy is a much less selfish player!!! <applause>

I feel we should be looking for more than the supposed £7m rating of the Murphys. Neither were amazing last season but returned well on goals/assists:games. With some good coaching at another club they could be very very good. Id be asking closer to double figures.

Still, silver lining etc, if Jacob is sold on, at least we've got Sergi Canos waiting in the wings to step in as back-up...ahh, hang on a mo...<doh> <grr>

The way AN dealt with Canos really demonstrated just how muddled his thinking was.
And yet nobody in the boardroom put their foot down and still backed him to the tune of £7m for Yanic Wildschut - another who simply disappeared into the ether despite costing a fortune.
As did Pritchard under A Neil. Pathetic.
Pritchard's development as a player with NCFC owes everything to Irvine - and flook all to Neil <grr>
