We wanted 12-15 million for Oxo because that's the price that says, if you're daft enough to pay it we will take it, otherwise we'll keep the player. I think that's what Burnley are doing. It's not greed, it's business.
Lets take a reality check. He scored 15 goals (which in my mind is nothing more than an average return for a striker from a 46 game season) in the SECOND division last season, and people think we should splash out £6 million on him?![]()
If we did pay the £6m and the lad then struggled for Saints... I wonder how quickly it would take the same fans to slag off the club for wasting all that money? Hmmm.
6m - too much. Just coz we have money doesnt mean we should spunk it. HERNADEZ cost united 6million :S
COYRs!!!!!
Hands up, who was suggesting Jay Rod as a transfer target a month ago?
(I'm expecting no hands. I suspect like myself, you were aware that Burnley had a young striker, but it's only in the last couple of weeks that you've looked into his career and had several other strikers in your head as reasonable targets?)
Hernandez is Mexican ( I think) although a great signing for 6 million all the same but English players are always at a premium aslo for a Man U signing he was relitively under the radar which may have kept the price down, he is also playing in the united squad where as he may not look quite as good if he was playing for say Wigan or QPR?

If you pay 6 million, he'd have to play which puts constraints on Adkins choices. Who do you leave out? Pardon my ignorance but what kind of striker is he? Who would he best work with? Serious question as I don't know anything about him.
CBK - my hands firmly in pockets - it's called what started out as a belief that we need to strengthen the attack that has fast become an underlying feeling of desperation because we have not signed anyone. People were moaning about paying more than £3.5M for Maynard are now trying to justify why we should pay £6M for this kid that none of us knew of...I have I missed anything out of my summation?
Seems pretty accurate mate. Although I would add that Nige did say we had bid for Billy Sharp, thus leading everyone to believe we are in the market for another forward.
for what its worth, i think saints have an inferiority complex when it comes to spending money. Howe many seasons has Delap been our most expensive signing? and what ambition does it show if we get to the prem?? we need to spend more than £4million on a player to compete at that level - even Bolton and Stoke are spending £10m plus!
How can we as a club, shirk at a £6m price tag, when in the past we have sold championship and league 1 players for £8m plus.
Also - when you buy english players, you pay the premium.
Why dont we put our money where our mouths are and put up the money - make a statement and show that we mean business.
wages shouldnt be a problem, as we tend to fill our stadium, and we have a much greater potential than Burnely. lets put it this way - A club like sunderland pay more wages for players than they do at Arsenal and man utd as they are better clubs and more likely to win stuff with them.
Ah - cheers Saint Smiler - forgot about Billy-Boy - the grey matter is not what it used to be...
