I think he is a talent... I also think Atkins gets the most out of players, I think a good example of this would be Hammond, it may sound a bit harsh but I think he is an average to good player however last third of the season, pre season and so far this season he has been storming the league.
Maybe everybody is right its a bit pricey but why not use some of our fringe/squad players as part of these deals we want, we have good players who will not feature at all for us this year and would likely strengethen others teams.
I think in a years time we could be having a very different conversation about him. He will be a top player.

Lets take a reality check. He scored 15 goals (which in my mind is nothing more than an average return for a striker from a 46 game season) in the SECOND division last season, and people think we should splash out £6 million on him?
There's a reason Burnley fans want about £7m for him. Goals aren't everything, especially when he played on the wing for a lot of the season. Wish people would stop making statements like this without knowing a lot about the player in question.

Hernandez is Mexican ( I think) although a great signing for 6 million all the same but English players are always at a premium aslo for a Man U signing he was relitively under the radar which may have kept the price down, he is also playing in the united squad where as he may not look quite as good if he was playing for say Wigan or QPR?
Didn't have him as a target (nor did I have anybody, for that matter) but if you asked me a month ago I would have happily said we should sign him, if that counts?
for what its worth, i think saints have an inferiority complex when it comes to spending money. Howe many seasons has Delap been our most expensive signing? and what ambition does it show if we get to the prem?? we need to spend more than £4million on a player to compete at that level - even Bolton and Stoke are spending £10m plus!

CBK - my hands firmly in pockets - it's called what started out as a belief that we need to strengthen the attack that has fast become an underlying feeling of desperation because we have not signed anyone. People were moaning about paying more than £3.5M for Maynard are now trying to justify why we should pay £6M for this kid that none of us knew of...I have I missed anything out of my summation?
Busted lol no I'm not but as one of above posters has just wrote, yes 6 million is a lot but he is good, he is English, his work rate not just a striker but provider according to all burnley fans is second to none, he is young and if saints really want to compete at this level with the view to establishing ourself as a premier league side In the coming seasons we will have to get used to these fees to be set for players that will improve our team, it is a chance on a young player but he is an international and a regular at burnley, their fans cannot all be wrong, if he helps fire us back up this season then £6 million is cheap, as everyone knows the money is in the prem and at this moment we are not!
Clinical finisher, quite quick too. Bit like Connolly but much younger, less injured and a little taller. With the sort of support we could give him, mark my words he'd be awesome. Think of what Rasiak could have been if he had workrate and you're some way there. With support from Lallana/Lambert/Guly/De Ridder, he'd score for fun.

Hmmm, Rodriguez is young (not prolific by any means) and a hometown hero. I'm always a bit suspicious of signing young players when they probably only previously justified leaving for a 'big glamorous' club, rather than for a 'comparative' outfit and for their own club's financial concerns. There's a few examples, it took Surman a few years to adjust not playing for us, looking like he'd lost it a some point. £6 mil is inflated, and agree that Cortese is probably fundamentally against paying that.
It was what seemed to be an age ago to be fair! Maybe the lack of a forward signing, Barnyard not having kicked a ball as of yet this campaign and the resurgence of David Connolly could mean we will wait until January.
And Conman you are so right, 750k for Cork in today's market is peanuts but what a player he is! Could be signing of the season methinks!
Why are people saying he's "a kid none of us had ever heard of"? He's a regular starter for a club in the division we're in, if "none of us" have heard of him then I really do worry .
Don't understand that logic at all. Delap was 8 or 9 years ago now. Would you have been happier if just before going into administration we had spent £5m on a player?
Plenty of examples of clubs that overpay for players and wages and don't get success and just get into a mess.
Bolton & Stoke and the others are spending more because the TV payments in the Prem are way more now per season than years ago. So clubs like that, who have avoided relegation can bank more and then spend more (partly because they know they'll have parachute payments as a back up).
We don't fill our stadium. We fill our stadium 2 or 3 times a season on average. We would in the Prem, we are NOT in the Prem.
As I said earlier, I can guarantee the same people DEMANDING we spend lots of money will be the same people who will slag off Adkins & Cortese if those players arn't instantly amazing.
Football fans = mostly fickle idiots with no grip on reality.
