The play-offs are excellent as they are, I don't understand why anyone thinks we should start buggering about with them.

The comment I made followed the post by Plum. If the team finishing 3rd in the Championship has to win promotion by a play-off system what is the problem with a similar system for relegation in the PL ie. 2 bottom teams automatic relegation and the 3rd determined by a play-off system? Surely there is symmetry in that.

And in tge event of a tie the club without their name on their shirt would go up. Would only be a problem if it involved ourselves abd Wolverhampton Wanderers. In that case the place would go to the club with the shortest name.
What.....Stop rambling fella...

The point of the play-offs is to give the teams at the top something to play for in the last month of the season, the clubs at the bottom already have plenty to play for.

It's absolutely fine as it is, it needs no changes.

More or less what Duffers was saying post 235. Wonder if he saw it somewhere else?
Nah...Just seemed like a good idea to involve the 7th and 8th teams, but also to give the advantage to those teams who finished higher up the table.
Don't get me wrong. The play-offs are great. I recall the old days when the season came to an end in mid March with mid table games that were like watching paint dry. However, the current play-off format really doesn't advantage the teams who finished 3rd and 4th. They still have to travel to the 6th and 5th teams respectively.
My scheme wouldn't require this as they would always have home advantage.

Come on Hudders

Finish the job tonight

Think I would rather see them meeting Reading at Wembley, informing their fans that Wednesday's massive support will guarantee victory as such an enormous club should be in the PL as of right. Then watching their tearful fans slinking away after a 5-0 drubbing.

Possibly- that's also an attractive scenario, which would further increase their sense of victimhood should they lose the final again.
It's curious that you can hate both clubs from the same city, even though their fanbases are different in character and the detest each other.
It's sad that we find ourselves once again having to play the likes of these.
