I don't see an issue with a relatively wealthy person from a privileged background being left-wing and calling for a more equal society. Russell Brand said something along the lines of when he was poor, they said he was jealous and now he's rich he's pompous for wanting a more equal society. Not the exact words but you get the gist.
It's not an argument. Just pointing out you don't have to be the child of a miner to be a credible left wing politician.
The Bracknell (Royal West Windsor Upon Thames) seat is about as blue as it gets. The bloke got a majority in 2015 and UKIP did ok too. Also he's a QPR fan.
No, we don't like manifestos and policies. We like personalities, and insults, and the media telling us what's best for us.
Think I'll bow out of this thread now till after the election. It's like a Communist Party talking shop. Communism has done so well historically, that I'm sure Corbyn will win by a landslide and you'll all be happy little soldiers.
Your judgement on politicians would appear to be as ill-informed as your opinions on football players.
Would you like to elaborate or would you rather decide you don't want to play any more and storm off like on the other thread?
Lib Dems to legalise and tax cannabis. Good call. I would do it for all the other 'recreational' drugs too. We clearly can't stop the illegal sale of these things, and huge profits to organised crime, so why not raise some cash for the public purse? Limited number of licenced 'shops' with professionally trained and certified staff who can advise as well as sell, fast track access to health services paid for by sales for those who need it, regulated and inspected production and distribution, a fantastic growth industry. For those worried that legalisation will lead to a boom in use, in Colorado teenager rates of cannabis use have dropped sharply since the legal shops opened (presumably because the illegal supply has dried up as it's not profitable any more). They have also saved a fortune in police and criminal justice time and effort, though they haven't raised that much in tax revenues. And perhaps they might sell some old style ordinary weed, rather than this stuff which sends you on a brief trip around the galaxy. I suppose this should be on the Election thread. Why don't we merge them?
My Mum (77) has taken to saying this very frequently, in a Catherine Tate kind of way. I have had to ask her to cease and desist, it's disconcerting.
Oh come on Col, don't throw your toys out of the pram just 'cos people don't all agree with your vision of society. After all, we are all allowed our opinions, however much you might not like them or agree with them. It's nothing personal bruv
Legalising cannabis is the most no brainer policy there is but it doesn't appeal to those who sway elections so won't happen. There's genuinely no negatives to it as a policy.
Not throwing my toys out the pram mate. We go around in circles on here, so I figure it's best to stand back and read with interest. I certainly don't disagree with everything said by those on the left, or those in the centre or the right for that matter, but I don't share the pathological hatred of all things Tory like some appear to. It gets a bit tiresome and I'd rather not get involved on here on this thread. Hope you're well mate.
Pretty unfair on Jeremy Corbyn calling him a pacifist. He was a fervent supporter of the IRA when it was murdering women and children. Go Jezza!
I can list the Lib Dem policies I agree with on one finger. This is it, and I agree it's a good call. Canada is about to decriminalise old style cannabis. Portugal has apparently had good results re lower crime figures after its own programme. Our police have more important jobs than chasing after a kid with a spliff.
