    Why am I irrelevent?

Last time I checked the OP asked for score predictions and I gave mine.

Don't get angry because I didn't say you would win 458-0

Andy King's Crown Jewels, since this is a cross-board thread which includes a board you're banned from, I think it would be best if you did your wind-ups somewhere else where it's less likely to derail the thread. Thank you. <ok>

No worries mate, just grinds my gears how people (Hull fans in particular) seem to think everything I do is a wind up.

<laugh> Feel sorry for them to be honest, ah well. Looking forward to our games this season, usually tight affairs. (Until Stevie Howard plays :p)

Don't forget that we're signing Howard just to avoid him scoring against us. ;)

Looking forward to it; now scram you pesky little Fox and leave us Yorkshiremen to dourly complain amongst ourselves!

I wouldn't mind him going to be fair.

He is too much of a good lad to sit on the bench.

He is the first Leicester player I would choose to sit and have a pint with, no doubt.

    Alright, i'm off. Honest <ok>

Nah, we won't actually get him. He'll want more than 3k a week probably. Becchio's meant to be back within a fortnight anyhow, I don't actually expect we'll get any other strikers in, we'll just make do with McCormack and Grella by the looks of things. And Paynter if his thigh stops being strained.

It's not like Grella's being played though. We clearly need another striker to play with McCormack, but he didn't even make the bench on Saturday.

I'd rather McCormack and Grella start on Tuesday than us stick to the 4-2-what ever you want to call it - formation that clearly hasn't worked.

It's not working defensively or in attack, so Grayson needs to switch up. I think he seems so keen to try and get the best out of Snodgrass, Gradel and Howson's attacking abilities but probably for the sake of getting a result and not conceding every game he should sacrifice a bit of Howson's forward play and get him to stay further back.

    ----------------------Lonergran

    -------------Tom Lees--Kisnorbo----Bromby
    Connolly-----------------Brown-------------Aidy White
    ------------Clayton-------------Nunez
    -----------Grella--------------McCormack

That's who I'd play, but I can't ever see SG playing that. We have 5 CBs and only 2 proper CMS, so we might as well play more defenders. It would also give Aidy White the chance at left back without him having to worry too much about the defensive part.

I'm a big fan of the wing-backed 5-3-2 and that looks like a big up-and-coming way to go about things, though I think we do limit our attacking play if we cut out the wingers completely. Sam, Nunez and Snodgrass are the only part of the team that really look representative of a top-six Championship side and by bringing the seldom-scoring Grella in, I think that could damage our confidence even further. We need a bit of consistency and I think the 4-2-3-1 is still the way to go about it. It's the personnel, not the system, that's failing. And of course we're lacking a striker, a holding mid (unless Brown really steps up) and a proper left-back. You can try paper over those cracks with any formation but I don't think it would have any effect other than making the team look even less gelled.

Yeah but it's not really cutting out the wingers though. Who says Snodgrass is strictly a right winger - he was a second striker at Livingston and it was Gary Mac that started playing him on the right.

I do agree you on the personnel being wrong not the system, but we need to stop the team conceding so many goals. I think the 4-2-3-1 could work if Grayson dropped Howson off a little into midfield alongside Clayton and Brown to make it more a 4-3-3. Cause at the moment, teams just glide through the centre of our team.

Howard was the striker we pulled out of the deal for. The wages weren't a problem, but he wanted a 2 year contract and we were only offering 1. We've taken Mikael Forssell on trial, should be a good shout.

Perhaps. I blame Brown for that more than Howson, who tends to go AWOL when played in that deeper role anyway. He's more effective in the freer attacking role than having defensive responsibilities burdening him. For all we know, Nunez will put a great show on in his absence and make the role his own, displacing Howson. Well, a guy can dream. Snodgrass works OK as a second striker, though I think when you're going through the middle you need the burst of pace Howson's got rather than Snodgrass' trickery. I do think he operates more effectively cutting in from the wing since it gives him the chance to fire away those curling shots and crosses and also means he can pick out a pass in the box early before committing himself down the line. You've also got to remember how integral Gradel is to our fortunes; to make the team narrower and cut him out could be disastrous.

But I honestly think the answer will be new signings, not managerial tinkerings. You might be right that we should play a more counter-attacking/defensive formation, but I think we're just going to have to say '**** it' and attempt the 'score one more than you' approach again this season. That seems to be the most effective way to utilize the players we've got.

I thought we were just going for a loan deal to be honest. Didn't think we needed another striker in on a permanent contract. Forssell on an extendable six-month deal would be alright to plug a gap for a bit. I actually saw Grella wandering through Leeds before the game and he looked pretty angry. I know it means little, but you'd have thought he'd be down there at ER with the other lads and should certainly have taken a place on the bench if Paynter was unfit.
