Gyan did the best with what he got, which wasn't alot. I was abit gutted with the performance and he will be too, I'm not convinced he can play the lone striker, and someone like wickham or ji up with him helps him do his thing! Sess behind allows him doesnt give him much support at the moment, because both want to play off each other thus they treat each other as a target man. As talented as they both are I think you've got to either partner Gyan, or give Sess a physical target man to work with. Currently not convinced that Gyan and Sess is the way to go, but would love to be proven wrong.

Thought Gyan did ok, bit rusty but worked hard and good skills to get the ball to Elmo for his cross.

Derbies can be tight and set pieces can be crucial. We now have a player in Seb who can deliver quality so id play Ji or Whickham upfront with Gyan in a flat 4-4-2 with Sess wide left to start with. Could also prove usefull defensively to have that extra height in the team as they have Ba and Ameobi up top both tall strong lads.

From what I saw, Gyan worked very hard for little reward...He is undoubtedly a class act, and sooner or later it will all click into place and he will make a huge impact...

Is he REALLY such a class act? Throughout his entire career (apart from his first club in Accra) he was a pretty spot on 1 in 3 striker in every club. I haven't seen anything which would lead me to believe that he's suddenly going to blow his own goals/apps ratio out of the water in arguably the toughest league in the world. To be honest, I'm surprised he's kept his 1 in 3 record up by moving to this league from somewhere like Ligue 1. You usually expect it to drop at least slightly due to the higher difficulty.

For all his occasional flashes of brilliance and skill, I expect him to remain around the 1 in 3 mark. Maybe slightly better. It seems to be engrained in him.

I don't think he is ever going to be an out-and-out goalscorer in the 'Bent' mould, but he does an awful lot of unselfish work that creates opportunities for other players..

Exactly right and it's that kind of player that we have been lacking last season. In the past we have had the likes of Reid or Jones, who just had that little turn of something extra -and they're the moments that win you games. Gyan created the space for our goal who slid the ball out to Elmo unmarked and in space.

In the second half Liverpool didn't dare leave those 2 unattended (the same used to happen with our Bent-Jones arrangement) which stopped them running forward. I think we ought to create lots of openings on Saturday, as we now have lads to do do it, we have that in Gyan and Sessegnon.

Well I actually agree with Chappaz but, and there is always a but.

One of our players come from France, its not the best league, they will struggle to score cant see him improving etc etc

One of theirs come from France, he is gods gift, will be great, cant do no wrong, will hit the ground running, will be better than anything we have.

just think its a bit laughable really.
