If she gets any kind of a majority she will have her mandate.

Those who want a hard Brexit might not want to support Mrs May. Too many people are now suggesting her objective is to strengthen her position within the disunited-yet-power-hungry Conservatives. That then gives her the scope to negotiate a soft Brexit with enough internal support to face down the hard Brexit fans and win. I haven't got a clue either way. It's a shame the referendum didn't specify what sort of Brexit we were being asked to vote on, but that was Cameron for you...

Well yeah, but for what? Whatever she pleases? Let's see what's in the manifesto - oh, but of course she can't 'reveal her hand' can she?

Tim Farron is certainly a committed Christian, but he isn't anti-gay. His own belief system may not think too much of the practices of gay people, but his support of gay rights and his voting record on them is exemplary. He's a Liberal. He may not want to do something himself, but that doesn't mean he wants to deny it to everyone else.

The referendum asked us whether we wanted to stay in the EU or leave. It was very clear.
When I voted leave I knew full well that would mean the UK leaving the single market, as you have to be a member to be in it.

Unlike his fellow Christian Ms May, who has consistently either voted against gay rights or absented herself.

Technically not I suppose but you lot have been banging on for six months now how a sinister crowd of remoaning politicians are beavering away to undo the will of the people. Was that another example of fake news then or were you all getting your knickers in a twist over nothing at all? Anyway let me clarify. By reverse I meant they were trying to emasculate it by going for the softest Brexit possible. Then again most seem to think that neither side wants a messy divorce and therefore it is not beyond the wit of the leaders in the states to look for a way to allow the UK back with no more than a slapped wrist and a verbal warning

Wrong. A country can be in the Single Market without being a member of the EU. Leave campaigners made that point repeatedly. You might have wanted to leave the Single Market, but I doubt that everyone who voted Leave did and we'll never know.

Is there not a difference between being a member of the single market and having access to it?
I didn't say I wanted to leave it, I just knew that a vote to leave the EU would mean we'd have to.

    Ok.
Yes. How naughty of us to try to go against our EU masters.

In all practical terms, there is no difference whatsoever between access for EU members and access for non-EU members who have signed up for it, like Norway. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck - it's a duck.

All those people who live in areas with hardly any foreigners but for some reason thought their lives would improve immeasurably from kicking foreigners out would storm Westminster.

    I'd bring popcorn

This isn't an Election more a Coronation! <ok>

I have supported the Conservatives all my life but I have to say that this is just a grubby and cynical ploy by May to grab more power while the Labour party is in total disarray. We need a strong, vibrant and coherent opposition to restrain the excesses of the party in power, but I'm afraid that after the Coronation, we will become a one party state governed by an elected dictatorship! Therefore I shall not be voting this time around as I can not lend my support for such a blatant power grab. The Labour party is just as much to blame for providing weak and incoherent opposition. If the Tories win big and end up with a majority of over 100 which is highly likely then proper democracy with all its checks and balances will be blown away and we will be much weaker as a country.

Just my opinion for what its worth!

Turns out the attack on the Dortmund team bus wasn't Islamist terrorism after all. They've charged a market trader who was hoping to make money on a fall in the club's share price.<yikes>

Agree that a huge majority for one party is rarely healthy - but with the forthcoming vital negotiations with the EU coming up, it would be a huge benefit for our negotiators, and the EU would know they were dealing with a team with a mandate.

The worst situation would be to have the Limp Dems continually making the EU's case for them and encouraging the EU to offer us a **** deal, so that the Limps can insist on a referendum to reject the deal and stay in the EU. We cannot go backwards on this, without causing irreversible damage to relations within the population of this country.
