I don't get it. He threatened to slap her, just the same as he would if she was a man.

Surely this should be proclaimed as a great day for equality and a victory for feminism.

If it were a man he'd be more likely to threaten a pasting rather than a girly slap.

    Harmless light-hearted banter.

If you want aggression and intimidation towards journalists, try Mourinho and Guardiola. The don't explicitly threaten journalists but they sometimes respond in a confrontational way designed to bully the questioner and make him/her look small, with a view to shutting them up.
But as they manage big clubs, they don't get any real criticism for this, unlike the manager of little old Sunderland whose club can be bullied by the likes of the antiBBC.

The point is, if he said to a male reporter that he should watch out or he could get a slap, it would not have been right. He also called her a girl even in his apology. She did not make the complaint others did, but it is all about the power. He has effectively said, if you want to keep your job as a reporter do not ask questions that I might not like.
He is out of order and deserves the questioning of his behaviour. But beyond that, he needs to change his attitude towards reporters and women.

Mourinho doesn't get criticised for his dealings with the media?

Have you not got internet access?

Hot of the heels of Paul Ince calling Jacqui Oatley 'darling' on TV. Some would say women in football is no bad thing. Though others might say it was never going to work and he's the proof. If Moyes said it to a bloke it wouldn't have made half the stink it has. I think I am right in saying Moyes apologised almost immediately. Move on.

He gets superficial stuff, usually by dim ****s 'outraged' by his decoy antics. But the routine less spectacular belittling of the questioner (like last weekend) he gets away with (even if it is noted).

He said whatever stupid **** he said, and she could be heard laughing, so I think that saved him.

If the comment about slapping her was met by stony silence, it would sound a lot more ominous and he'd get the bullet I think.

Why say it though? Why did it pop into his head? This has just made him look like a really weak weasel.

Extremely clever decoy technique learned from SAF. Media frenzy on this rather than his rubbish team and management. Bloke's a genius.

I think he shouldn't lose his job , he's deserved the criticism and a good slap from the FA would be the right punishment . Just feel this is a storm in a teacup story that if it had been that bad would have appeared in the media immediately .

    I agree
He hasn't done anything worthy of losing his job
And anyway the work he is doing there means I hope he keeps his job there for many years to come!

(I did think it was pathetic that he referred to her as a 'girl' in his apology though)
