Is that when Deano got sent off then confronted the ref after the game in the car park ?

I'm not even sure what you could say to a linesman to get a 4 match ban

As I pointed out, a team mate of mine was suspended for the season for threatening a ref and swearing at him after being red carded for calling him a cheat.

Didn't Deano once get a 6 match ban when playing for Aberdeen? Pretty sure part of that was for abusing the ref but agree, any sort of sending off or ban is relatively unprecedented

Technically, he got three red cards in that game, though I'm still not quite sure how that's possible.

The six match ban was due to the Scottish FA's points system, every card you got in a season incurred points and each ban length you got was dependent on how many points you'd amassed by the time the ban was issued.

We're discussing what happens normally in professional football matches, not what happens in your local park.

Messi's ban is unprecedented. FACT.

I'm discussing what the Laws of the Game dictate should happen, and as such what should be considered 'normal' in a given scenario.

I'm happy to have a discussion and if you think I'm wrong then that's fine, but your insistence in any given discussion to play the man and use snide remarks as your fall back is frustrating.

And by the way:

The fact you actually mentioned this earlier makes your "FACT" exclamation now more perplexing.

Sorry you're perplexed, but Pique's wasn't an international ban, as I mentioned earlier.

You said we're discussing what happens in professional matches.

You get wound up by people arguing minutiae but you're just as bad.

I've already acknowledged I erred in assuming that the Laws of the Game are applied properly but that is what standard practice SHOULD be.

You pulled me up on my 'bit harsh' comment, you were wrong, it's the harshest penalty even given in an international match for swearing, the conversion should have ended there.

Please let it end now.

Fifa has opened proceedings against Neil Taylor following his leg-breaking tackle on Seamus Coleman.

If swearing at a lino now gets you a four match ban, what do you now get for a leg-breaking tackle?

Not been a good international break for Everton, first Seamus Coleman, now it looks like Ramiro Funes Mori is also out for the rest of the season.

They're obviously clamping down on incidents caught on video, but missed by officials. Liam Cooper's just got a six match ban for violent conduct in Leeds' game against Reading at the weekend (Leeds have six remaining league games this season).

I'd not seen it until just now, no wonder they've banned him for the rest of the season and the dozy sod pled not guilty...

Wasn't it something along the lines of got red carded. Got a second for gobbing off on way off. Then got third for confronting the ref in the car park? <laugh> Sure i read it in his book

Two match ban.

He's got off lightly.

I think he was red carded, got a second for decent then pulled up the corner flag and threw it at the linesman like a Javelin on he way off and got a third for that
