Really good article I think. It explains very well why they so often hit the first man. Yes they could clip it into the middle every time but it'd just get headed away without that pace and dip.
 
I was right in the corner at Everton last week and it was evident that Robertson's corners were deliberately flat and aimed at the near post man. I think they just hope they get a ricochet, or someone gets across the first defender and nods it on.

The corner flag is a remnant from the early game when pitches were larger. It's only use now is the odd occasion it gives the ref/linesman
a clear indication of a corner or throw-in.

I'd get rid of it.
 
Corner flags primary use now appears to be for goal-scorers to kick in celebration.
 
Don't agree with some of that article. How many corners are scored at the front post compared to the amount that are scored from the middle of the box? With the counter attack threat it's not worth gambling a difficult ball just past the first man... just get a fast paced ball in where there are more of your heads waiting to get on the end of it. The middle of the box. It sounds like it's easier for an attacker to lose his man than it is to play that near post ball in. So why bother?
