I'd have thought it was quite a well known story.

I think if you asked people down the pub, even football fans, a lot wouldn't know what Liverpool FC were originally called. People on here might as thy are in many cases football orientated as opposed to many who "support" a club but know little of its history.

I didn't so much mean the name, just the story about Everton starting off at Anfield.

True. But the fact that they were first named Everton Football Club and Athletic Grounds isn't as well known. It is interesting to speculate, if the FA hadn't objected to the name (and you can see why they did) if the history of the club would have been different as Everton Athletic. Or if they had kept their original kit, whose shirt was similar to Blackburn Rovers. Would we have had pubs in Hull full of Hull Latics or Hull Blue and Whites cheering them on in televised games?

They'll sink without trace...

Seriously, I can see Everton becoming submerged in a lot of debt..

The new major shareholder has already paid off the existing debt that was costing us £6m a year to service.

He got his mate *cough* Usmanov to agree to pay us £5m a year to stick the name of his holding company - USM on our training ground.

So that's £11m a year we're already better off since his arrival, the new ground will be leased at a cost of £14.4m per year.

It's estimated it'll generate a minimum of an additional £500k per game over the current one, and then there's the naming rights...

It's a very clever piece of funding

yeah right...until they walk away and leave you in $hit street.
I've just explained how it works, they're not paying for the annual costs, the club is. The shareholders make no difference.

I think you'll find Hull City lease from the council, but don't have an option to purchase btw.
