I think aside from the obvious weakness at CB - as Lucas is no CB, the major issue in your side is in CM. Can and Wijnaldum just doesn't work imo. I always thought the latter was more of an attacking CM player anyway, and didn't really understand why you bought a goalscoring midfield player to then play him deep. As for Can, I have no idea what he is tbh, is he a right back? a future CB? no idea, but he simply isn't a top level CM player in this league.
He's proof that we won't solve all our issues just by buying German. The irony is he's regressed under Klopp.
Can is a chump. The German national side consider him an rb that's for sure. Imo he just hasn't worked hard this year.
Oh yeah, they've been terrible recently, im just saying that these whole news reports about how it was them going behind Ranieris back probably lit a fire up their asses, add to that the tactics last night were reset to last seasons due to Klopps inability to adapt to counter attack, Liverpool made us look better than i think we actually were. Its not as simple as "they are playing better because Ranieris gone".
If Klopp is a truly ambitious manager he needs to put the gun to FSG heads or tell us all why they wont spend the cash and walk away. Players are regressing under him because we dont have the squad to support the total pressing game he wants to play - I didnt see a single press last night ? Lets be realistic - even if we get top 4 we wont survive the extra demands it will make on this squad and we embarrassingly may not survive any necessary pre-qualification ! . Klopp has had 3 transfer windows to fix what we can all see .. 1. The goalie is flakey 2. We don't have a natural defender in the squad 3. We are short on leaders 4. Too many of the players are becoming injury prone ... and some dont want to play the press game .. He's spent c. 68m and recovered 73m ... and none of these problems have been fixed. He's looking for bargain basement answers to BIG structural problems ... Benitez had the same issue - Rogers ha the same issue .. buy crap = buy twice / three times ... FSG need to step in now and back Klopp with big cash or he may well be off boys .. Klopp can see whats wrong but once again the americanos have not ponied up any new cash ... we buy dross and it bites us and we have little or no impact from thr bench (see last nights bench v MC - Chelsea - Utd - Arsenal benches) If FSG don't want to take liverpool to a new level then they should sell up and move on ... we are currently going nowhere fast under this regime ..
Can we give a massive shout out for Clyne's rabona last night? The bloke looks like hes terrified to run with the ball the majority of the time buts comes out with that piece of beauty Love him tho.
not its not cos its patently obvious 3/4 of your players are really looking shot through. Fuchs, morgan especially. however your lot put themselves about and we did not plus we played right into your favorite things. Look at fuch throwing himself into challenges for the change in "attitude" we lumped it aimlessly once you pressed even a bit and then we left ourselves wide open to simple route one ball of schemichel or whoever... I'm confident you'll get up to about 35 points quick now then go on hols. Shakespeare will be caretaker cos he will do anything those players want him to do but you NEED to buy half a team next year and break the ****s.
I don't agree he needs to tell us anything like that I do agree there was zero press, cos there was zero togetherness on the pitch. I would say to you just look at leicesters bench last night. never mind those teams. leicester had more than us. we had karius klavan moreno, TAA, Woodbrun, origi, stewart. of that lot ONLY origi IMO wuld have any chance of a game i nthe prem off another club. two are kids so forgive them but moreno? stewart? klavan? Leicester had slimani, ullou, gray, and then chilwell also king they are not great but they are actually options for the manager to slot in.
Can was at his best playing sweeper CB because he had the pace to help Skrtel/Sakho/Lovren or whoever played. When he was asked to cover Lucas he did well but we don't have a leader at the back who told him this from the very beginning. If he sat back against Leicester then the first goal doesn't happen.
I think we are agreeing on most points - no press - no bench ... and differing only on what needs to be done . I think Klopp needs to tell us why its suddenly a BIG PROBLEM (his words) and why he hasn't / can't fix them ..after 3 transfer windows ... . If its down to FSG then he needs to shame them into action as up until now they have been nothing but parsimonious with the cash . If he feels he can coach the squad he has to the success levels we all want to see then he should tell us this and stand or fall by it .. Realistically do you think we have a squad to compete ? I cant believe Klopp does ? We need 5 more quality players to replace / add to what we have in my opinion to build a competitive squad . Do you think we can rely on the current bench to get us through ?
I hope that we can get over the line this year, and your right, big changes needed in the summer, some had gotten too comfortable after winning the title and its one of the reasons Ranieri lost his job imo. We've got a few younger players ready to step in. Last summer we tried to hold onto everyone to try and establish ourselves, somewhere like Southampton/Stoke/Everton, this year though im not sure many are really worth holding onto.
This Summer is huge, with the squad we have and the lack of spending under Klopp then FSG have to say "go nuts" get what you need. If this doesn't happen then there will be big questions.
yes but in the end either we take a long view of we don't. we are doing some positive stuff, we cannot lose sight of 50mil into triaing facilities and 150 odd into the main stand is a good use of this eara of silly money. However if we see a reluctance to buy "cos the guy we really wanted wasn't available" then we will be nowhere. Theres too much to do to play that game. We need reliable squad of players able to play not more klavans and stewarts who clearly are not trusted to even have a kick about.
There's the base of a good squad and some good youngsters there, we shouldn't lose sight of that but we now need to fill the gaps. It's the right players not yet another overhaul.
I would go further and say we have the fillings and need the base. Mane is a winger playing free forward. Coutinho is a guy developing towards some sort of wide forward or left midfield role. Matip is a tall CB... lallana is obviously going to stay as is clyne but the rest of the team including IMO the entire spine needs work. thats not a base sorry. not wumming just my view. I can't call it much else other than an over haul.
