"Fans need to lower expectations"- We all would have taken 17th at the beginning of last season. Everyone expects mid table this year..... Lower expectations is championship football Pardew what are you on about.

"club needs to be sustained by its own funds"- Lets clarify, everyone is focused on the £35m from Carroll..... TV rights, merchandise, Season Tickets, Sponsorship.... Wheres that money gone?

Sol Campbell, Nolan, Enrique, Routledge, Xisco gone with Barton and Ranger potentially set to follow. Huge saving on the wage bill and £11.5m incoming transfer fees.

£4.5m spent on Cabaye and £3m on Obertan. New deals for Tiote, Simpson and Shola, say £3m in signing on fees? Under soil heating for the training ground £3m (I work in construction, digging up turf, running in heating pipes then relaying a pitch doesnt cost that much). That amounts to some £13.5m...... So Ashley could be around £2m out of pocket.... Do you think £33m was spent in signing on fees for these free transfers? Course not.

With the wages of our new signings the overall bill must have came down with who has been shown the door.

Barton, Guthrie, Smith, Lovenkrands potentially being release end of this year freeing more of the wages up....

Being sustainable is one thing but there has to be a significant amount of cash in reserve still. We are desperate for a striker, a left back (seeing as we knew Jose would be away why is it Pardews "back up plan" is only being put into action now!!!) and left back cover!!!

Pardew and the board need to stop thinking the fans are clueless. The numbers dont add up, its plain for all to see.

I agree with you. However what does irritate me is that we are not spending cash on strikers. I wouild be a lot more satisfied if the squad was stronger. I could then probably cope with pardews ****e talking.

MA is not going to give us the money, there is nothing anybody can do about it. The fact is that we have tried to sign decent players Gervinho, Erdinc and Gameiro but they don't want to come as we are not a big club. Players must see that we are selling our top players and think that we have no ambition so why would they come here? (Even though selling Nolan and Carroll was the right thing to do). Also with Enrique and Barton slagging off our owners every 5 minutes on twitter, it doesn't exactly make Newcastle look like a great club to be at. Even Neil Taylor decided to stay at Swansea. Enrique is gone, we will get a new LB in and hopefully its Pieters. With the whole striker situation, clubs will try and charge us over the top odds because we have £35 million(even though we dont). I'm sure there will be another striker come in as well but we just need to be patient.

To be fair to Pardew he realises if we don't get a left back and a new striker, we are going to be lower mid table, flirting with relegation. I personally prefer this kind of honesty than some idiot saying "lets qualify for europe". We're poor while this guy is in charge, it ain't going to change so we may as well just get with it. Forget the 35m its gone, probably towards reducing the debt and increasing the chances of a sale. I hate that we have sold some key players over the last couple of years, that we are at best progressing very slowly, and that we are a selling club looking to turn profits to reduce debt. But it is what it is. Even if we get the aforementioned players I think we would have only improved ever so slightly on last years squad. I still think we will have enough to survive with or without the two players we obviously need. Its just if we don't get them, its gonna be a rollercoaster. My mother always said patience is a virtue. That saying never makes as much sense as it does now with our great football club.

Finally someone who gets it..... Great post!

One thing fans seem to forget when talking about our transfer dealings is that when we sell a play we demand the money to be paid to us in installments, but when we buy a player we buy them and pay the fee all upfront where possible, so while Carroll moved to Liverpool for 35 million I've seen nothing to say we got it in one lump sum on a giant novelty cheque

I really dispair with our fans at time I do. We nearly went to the wall under Freddie Shepherd by paying stupid obscene wages and contracts to players (some of them over the hill)

Now we are showing to players that we are being ran in a sensible fashion and won't be held to randsom giving players who have no reseale value and who could be half the player they are now in 12 months let alone 24 months long term contracts on big money.

The Barton saga is another perfect example people rushing to Joey's defence even though 2 days after turning down a deal he opened his twitter account and started sniping at the club at every opportunity clearly trying to force the club into a position where they would feel there was no option, but to get rid of him. He even said the magical words 48 hours before the club announced he was available on a free that "the only way I am leaving is if the club terminates my contract or lets me go on a free" which is clearly what he'd been angling for ever since the new contract offer broke down, but people still defend him because they see it as an attack on Ashley even though it's to the detriment of the football club

THIS IS NEWCASTLE UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB not Joey Barton FC and the fans need to see that we are being run under a sound financial model and we are lightyears ahead of other teams in the Premiership who will realise this in a few years, but for some that will be too late and they'll go to the wall. Yes we've sold good players and taken gambles on unknowns which has irked some fans, but you find me a football club that doesn't buy and sell players....

Everton hehe

What drivel some of you spout, we have one of the weakest / if not the weakest set of forwards in the Premiership. Puppet Pardew needs to be breaking his back to bring in a quality striker .

There's no question we need another experienced forward, but while we may not have as much quality as we'd like upfront we certaintly have quantity -

Ba
Shola
Best
Lovenkrands
Sammy
Ranger

Ranger and Lovenkrands could be moving on though and Pardew previously hinted at playing Ben Arfa behind a striker, so Ba, new striker, Ameobi and Best should see us through if we go with 1 upfront and Ben Arfa behind them
