I still think regardless of what may have been offered - selling him would be incredibly foolish.

We can't do anything with the money until next season. I'd rather keep him and give ourselves a better chance of staying up.

One goal from Abel could give us 3 points that keeps us in the PL for another season. What is that worth in monetary value?

Whether we want him to go is largely irrelevant. It all comes down to whether Abel wants to leave. That's just player power and it's also a very good offer for the club too.

I agree, it is entirely his decision.
we have an actual goalscorer in Niasse.
we have goal scoring midfielders as well as Mbokani, think we'll be OK if he pisses off.

You see I still think that is bollocks
Tell him he's staying till the end of the season but he can go then
He either stays and plays well and gets better offers at the end of the season, or he sulks like a ****er and gets a ****ter choice of clubs at the end of the season
So he would still play regardless, you just need to get over the deadline and he'll magically heal up and be fit

He can stamp his feet all he wants. He's still under contract, he'll only leave if the club decide he should leave. Given we can't sign a replacement unless they are unattached- allowing him to leave would be foolish.

Agree with DBT of course... the trouble is, he's a sulker, always has been. What effect would he have on the rest of the team if he's told 'you're not going, you're not doubling your wages!!??."... how much would he put in?...

If he didn't put enough in he'd be starting next season on his relegation clause wages

He'd play fine after the Chinese window closed

That approach doesn't work as has been shown countless times. If he doesn't want to stay he won't play anywhere near his best, so we'll lose the player either way. We need everyone pulling in the same direction

Which times has that happened with us? (genuine question)

Well we could've used it with both Snoddy and Livermore, they both wanted to leave but we didn't make them stay. You can't make players stay, even if they are under contract. Everyone knows that contracts mean bugger all in sport.
