We have all become far too cynical. It is what happens when you have seen it all before and it is usually a feature of maturity and experience (note I didn't say being old) but it is now very evident in young Saints fans who are probably the most cynical fans in the PL. Could it be because cynicism is a consequence of constant disappointment?

Did you know that "Yeah, right." is heard more often in Southampton than anywhere else.

Is this an example of false truth? What is the source for this stat? Nihilism and cynicism is the product of a creating generations with little hope. I suspect it is universal. We war-time/baby boomers were lucky. We faced a life of opportunity. My grandchildren, I fear, don't. I think I might develop a cynical attitude to life if I were under 25 in modern Britain.

What, absolute tosh, they have never had it so easy. Maybe they are too expectant, but they have no right to be the most cynical.

I made it up but as four of the last six posters have used the phrase I can't be far wrong. Is CBK's constant posting of "Have we signed anyone yet?" a classic example of cynicism?

Not sure on this Lambo...........The difference in generations is that todays generations demand more than we did as are their expectations. The thought of owning your own home was just a dream for us wartime children as they seemed to be well out of a average working mans grasp. We didn't have two wage packets coming in on average for the whole of our working lives. (My first weeks wages as a 15 year old Was £1.3 and 8 pence in old money as an apprentice)
We worked hard and scrimped and saved right from our first day at work and got there in good numbers. It is no different for todays youngsters it is just as hard and just as out of site. The difference is they demand the right to own the own home where as we didn't. They seem to not want to have to work hard and scrimp and save (not all I grant you) they mainly see their parents or grandparents as being the financiers for their deposits. With todays children staying home a bloody site longer than our generation. (The average today for leaving home is in their late 20's to early 30's) So I am surprised that they on average don't have a few bob behind them when they are ready to leave home!!
There is opportunity out for those that really look for it and go for it. Rather than wait for it to fall into their lap they just have to look and granted it is hard but it aint going to jump out at you or rarely does. You've gotta find it for yourself same as we did!!!!! Im not saying it is easy but it is do-able.........

Just seen Les Reed in his hooded robes, clutching a chicken, heading off into to the Forest clearing.

    Something could be happening.

When I got my first home, we had 'hand me down' furniture, a 15-yr-old car, didn't have a holiday for 5 years, and our only treat was one drink in a pub on a Friday. And we were both scientists in well paid jobs. Had to be done to pay the mortgage and bills. Not all of them of course, but a lot of youngsters won't give up nights out, attending festivals, having latest gadgets, and holidays....then wonder why they have no savings. I think they'd be amazed if they added all those things up. You can have one thing or the other....your choice, but don't whinge about it.

Strewth Godders why is she being cynical?
Saints must be one of the slowest in the league for getting someone in and over the line!! We for whatever reason seem to enjoy dragging things out. Most transfers from media announcement of a medical to completion is usually around 24 /36 hours tops. For Saints it can run into days sometimes!!
Unless the players are on their way out that is....seems to move a lot quicker then.
