How do any of us know if he is a panic buy or not, maybe he was on the radar anyway, ticked all the boxes on the black box and it's just taking a little longer to sign him?

Maybe we accepted the Fonte deal as this was 99% done and then something else came up, I've read that Milan were talking to him, maybe his head was turned and wanted to see what they offered. Then we panicked and looked at Sahko etc.

None of us truly know, even the ITK people only get snippets. All I will say is that I trust the board and sometimes things happen that they can not help, generally speaking if we need a player, we sign one. Needed a striker, signed a striker. Needed a back up GK, signed a back up GK. This board isn't afraid to sign players and I'm sure they will continue to do so.

If my missus sent me to the shops to get some chocolate, I would come home with chocolate, even if her preferred type wasn't there. If she sent me to get some Plantain and the shop didn't have any, then I'd come home with nothing.

Players that fit the criteria we want do not grow on trees and if the ones we want can't come to us, there's no point buying any old CB. I could buy some bananas, sure they look the same but it is only going to cause issues when I get home

None of us want another Osvaldo type player and i don't think the board would choose someone who wouldn't fit the club. Let's get caceres in and playing and let's start winning again!

There are other better, younger targets but for one reason or another they will have to wait until the summer.

People rightly get frustrated about the promise to replace Fonte but in truth, having 'plenty of time' in the window to sort something out is just part of the equation. Even supposing that black box analysis shows ability and character meet our criteria (which both eliminate Sakho by the way) you still need a player willing to come, a club willing to sell, a realistic price, an agent willing to accept our wage structure, a fit and healthy player, a belief in our vision.

The analogy with Charlie Austin is a good one. If he is fit then there is no reason why we can't get him up to speed and being a real asset for the team.

Nah, the way some of our fans think (see twitter <laugh>), we can click our fingers and players come running.
 
Maybe we'll sign him and gear his contract heavily towards appearances and then not play him to avoid paying out <laugh>
 
Can't believe people are seeing this as anything other than a massive panic buy (if it happens)

Massive gamble on his fitness, he's been injured for over a year.

Oh dear.........Some say he is good others he is crap. Some say we new about his situation during the window and he was our second choice but didn't have to rush. Cant see it myself not sure from all the reports I have seen though that he is better than we have.
As for his injuries Not too enthused by his History. As for his fitness it would in my opinion take at least a month for him to come anywhere near the kind of fitness needed for the premier. So surely VVD will be back by then? Nah can't see this as anything else but hot air.........Unless that is VVD is injured worse than was feared??
 
People saying he is injury prone or not good enough: this may well be true but it doesn't actually matter. There is always a chance he may not get injured and be alright at football (he has played for some top clubs after all, so no denying it is possible). With a contract to the end of the season it is worth the risk of him not working out as it isn't exactly going to cost us much.

Desperate times.

I move in posh circles if there are people out there who buy plantain. In my day I got sent to the shop for turnip and offal. I didn't know it was offal at the time. It came from a butchers, so it was meat. Am I from the 50's, of course.

Can't beat a nice plantain if you can find them, chop into slices and fry until very dark on each side, beautiful! My home made Jerk Chicken isn't the same if I can't find it!

Big bananas always go down well in my house, but if I walk in with a handful of plantain, then I'd be treated like a king for a week!

Trouble is the big supermarkets don't seem to sell them anymore do you have to go to a world food shop which means a trip just for that.
