Lansbury has played for a team in the Championship for the last 4 seasons. I know what you are saying, I'm not saying you're wrong. I think it's the wrong time to consider selling a known quantity for someone of unknown quantity in our team, our current predicament and the amount of games we have remaining.

I do think we have to retain our current squad members and add into areas of weakness. Minimum disruption is called for in my opinion. Add a RB add another striker and then go with what we've got.

Based on Silva's past clubs and what he's done so far he likes to play two holding midfielders. We already have Tom, Mason, Clucas and Meyler, we can afford to let one go.

Why do we need any more forwards? We only play with one out and on striker up top and we have Abel, Niasse, Mbokani and Dio. We desperately need some pacey wingers not more strikers.

Precisely. We've got a very imbalanced squad and everyone - I'm guessing - would accept that we're far too top heavy for centre midfielders. We've got (off the top of my head):

Mason
Jake
THudd
Clucas
(Sterling tells us) Henriksen
and Meyler.

How many true wide attacking midfielders have we got? Snodgrass and Evandro - is that it?

If Silva wants to play 2 central midfielders this bid (if real) gives us a chance to address it. Its not that I want Jake to go, its that this - in my eyes - gives us a chance to address some of the squad imbalance issues we have.

Just thinking exactly the same thing

Weve too many centre midfielders, £15m to reinvest in the team id be very tempted
I like livermore but what type of midfielder is he? Doesnt seem to specialise in any of the midfield roles ie box to box, defensive mid, deep lying playmaker or attacking midfielder. If we can target a specialist defensive midfielder id sell

Bang on, but the only actual wide player we have is Snodgrass & Maloney (Not good enough). Evandro seems to be more central. There's a huge imbalance, in our squad, not forgetting that we have 3 decent keepers too.

He said covers IN defence not for the defence. Are you saying Jake HASN'T started at CB this season?

Erm, no. I'm not saying that. At all. I don't know why you'd think I had.

The post I replied to said this:
'He's not playing as a midfielder he's playing as a centre back'

The key word there is 'playing', he did not say 'has played'.

I think you can describe Abel as a striker. Dio works hard as does Mbokani, but seldom score. We don't know about Niasse yet. Given we can't make additions after January, not signing another would be incredibly foolish. We need goals, goals win games. Winning games may help us out of the **** bucket we are currently in.

Mason, Clucas and Henriksen are all pretty lightweight, take Jake off that list and we lose a lot of bite in midfield.

Evandro isn't a wide player, at least he hasn't been before, he plays down the middle.

I actually said 'covers' in defence.

Has he 'covered' in defence this season?

Yes, yes he has.

Selling him would be a mistake.

We have more pressing needs than more strikers. Niasse was brought in to score goals, Hernandez will score goals if given the opportunity. We need quick wingers.

Mason ain't no holding midfielder, he's played 19 games for us so far and he hasn't made a tackle yet.

He had his best game for us there at the weekend. Played there for Spurs pretty much all the time. Fair enough, he's not a big tackler, he nicks it quite well but his passing game and forward play is better than Jake's.

Put yourself in Marco's shoes and assume you've been told you have to sell before you can buy. Is he happy with the squad now? No. Are any of you happy with the squad now? Doubtful.

You like to play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 but at the moment your squad is square pegs in round holes. Where do you lack players for your formation (I'd say definitely RB and probably on the wings)? Where do you have an abundance of players? Of our 7 fit players, 6 of them are CM (flippant remark, I know).

Which players are you likely to get offers for that might bring in any kind of decent money? Do you think with this money you can improve the squad and get them playing in the formation that you want?

And there's the rub. It's what the manager (head coach) thinks that will make the difference here. If Silva thinks he can use the money more than the player, then that's the reality.

What I would say is that when Marco was at Estoril, he lost 4 to the Portuguese big 3 after finishing 5th. He brought in some gems and they finished 4th despite being favourites for relegation.

If this was Bruce spending the money, I wouldn't have a lot of hope, but it's a complete new management now.
