Fran, I used to support Pompey more than Saints until they managed to reach the PL. I have always supported the teams along the Solent as I have pride in my region. With PFC it was a case of enough is enough when you saw all the broken promises about ground redevelopment during the Mandaric years. So I said to myself, I will support them again when I see evidence of this. When I was a schoolboy I was taken to Southampton by my father and neighbours and loved the experience of standing there on the Archers Road terrrace watching Ron Davies nod in those crosses from Terry Paine. I admit my love affair with Southampton lessened during their days in the PL when it was usually a struggle to say up. It was case of being a born again Saint in 2009 when I went along for the first match in League 1 against Millwall as from there there was only one way to go and that was "up."
Didn't you know it was in the South-East and stretches all over Southern England as well. How else do you explain the existence of Manchester United fans?
With gates of 54,000 - up from 44,000 and previous to that 36,000 their new regular support has come from somewhere. When Leeds were successful in the 60s and 70s, pockets of Leeds United fans sprung up all over the country in the school playrounds. I doubt that is the case with them now. Now it will be someone in the current Top 6, plus Real, Bayern and Barca.
Man City were always a pretty well supported club tbf. Quite a lot of people live in Manchester, and they are by no means all red.
I've said it before(about 10 mins ago) and I'll say it again. This is Klopp trying to be a Jedi. He's not talking about Lallana, he's tapping Vin Dijk up, flirting with him...trying to unsettle him.
Can you blame Klopp for wanting the best CB in the PL? Although you guys have two very good ones as well. Toby and Jan!!!
No I don't blame him. Dijk got the skills to pay the bills. I'll be cheering you on tonight, best of luck. Oh when the Spu..aints...go marching in....
Don't have a problem with Adam, personally and i'm grateful for what he achieved here as a player, BUT I hope that he has an absolute stinker tonight.
Supporter from Donegal in the NW of Ireland...I don't know any other fans near me but when I lived in Dublin we had a small supporters group. I have Le Tiss to blame/thank for supporting Saints!
I remember the Liverpool fans moaning about the price when Brenda bought them saying he was average and not good enough for them. I also remember comments when they bought him, Lovren and Lambert like "Why are we buying the 8th placed team's players? If we buy the players of the 8th best team we will then be the 8th best team"
I know a chap who lives just over the border from you in Co Leitrim. As he was in the Royal Navy, guess who he supports? I think if I was Irish I would have grown up supporting one of the European greats such as AC Milan.
Lallana had his best & most consistent season under Pochettino in his last season at Saints. He is a little injury prone & a combination of that & not playing regularly because of his position in the pecking order saw him struggle in his first year and a half at Liverpool. Now he is fit & playing regularly he is back to his peak.
I think fitness is a big thing. You lot have always given him **** for only lasting an hour, Klopp seems to insist on extreme fitness and it's helped him no end, he's just sharper and on track for his best season ever.
I think you'll find Poch was/is quite big on fitness too. Contrary to media opinion, Klopp didn't invent the high press style in the Premier League.
I simply meant that Lallanas fitness has improved and he's seeing out the whole game at a high tempo, something he has previously struggled with.
Possible candidate for footballer of the year at this stage of the season. Hope he keeps good form up!
