Aslong as we bring in a decent replacement for Fonte, i'm happy. Can't be good having a player in the dressing room that does not want to be here.
Maya is playing better than Fonte this season and is committed. If a team is willing to pay what saints want then sell.
I think it's been made clear by the club that Jose will only be going if we get our valuation AND we have a suitable replacement. This seems pretty sensible to me. Quite happy for him to go if these conditions are both met....although I would prefer it wasn't Everton.
Because he is our club captain and a decent cb, only until recently when club broke Fonte wanting to leave had Fonte been dropped.
I think we played him because he couldn't go anywhere and was therefore not distracted. Now the window is open and anything could happen so his mind might unintentionally wander at a crucial moment or he might get injured. I got the feeling from Puel's interview that we will use him if it's absolutely necessary but would rather not.
I wonder if our valuation today will be a lot higher than our valuation on 31st January, if it gets that far.
I'm pretty sure Les said don't bother trying that late as we won't be able to get a replacement.....yes here's the quote “He certainly won’t leave on the basis that he can just go. “We would not consider releasing him unless there was a decent transfer fee and secondly that we were in a position to replace him. If anybody comes along on the last day of the transfer window it’s not going to happen."
I think if the valuation alters so far, the club may view to hold til the summer as emergency back up. Gives us longer to get a replacement rather than shoe horn now!
Reading in the media that Everton want Keane from Burnley, come the summer, so potential for Fonte to go to Everton, then be sidelined for next season. But at least he would be well paid for it.
I don't think Fonte is that interested in playing regardless. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's just moving for money but it's the #1 priority by a mile.
Interesting that the Liverpool Echo are questioning Jose's potential transfer because of Age v Cost RK appears to be really throwing his toys out the Priam over the boards lack of support in bringing in new players otherwise their title race will be over (Ho Ho)
There are a lot of sportsmen who continue to earn silly money as TV pundits. The tragedy for them is that while they may have been good footballers in the main they don't make very good pundits. I maintain match of the day would be far better without them.
I'm sure media work is well paid and many of the ex-players (Merson being a prime example) aren't worth what they get paid but I don't think media wages are on the same level as player wages. The modern trend for former players is odd though. You have print and TV journalists, people qualified to talk and/or write about events passed over for people who were quite good at kicking a ball around.
If he'd get that horrendous bumfluff off his chin he'd hardly be irritating at all. Shearer I can tolerate. Who in the name of arse decided to let Danny Murphy or Robbie Savage anywhere near a camera or microphone? Alan Hansen was good. One of very few pundits whose analysis occasionally shed real light on the game.
