City today signed veteran defender Greg Halford from struggling Rotherham, and then let Lex Immers leave after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent. More happening in the next few days methinks.
bit of a farce the immers thing. Seems a bit of a whirlwind. Looks good, puts in some performances, ousted from the side never to be seen again. Did we pay a fee for him? Wonder how much it cost to buy him off. Obviously Colin has his views on him. As you say Bluescull, it might be a busy time. Strip the squad back to bare bones and add a couple new faces. Don't think Colin likes big squads anyway. Could do with Bellamy pushing one or two of the youngsters to step up.
The good thing about Immers going on a "contract cancelled" basis means his wages are off the book with immediate effect. I can't see Halford being on anything like the screw he was on which means we should be on a net minus wage bill at the moment with room for more.
I know his wages are off the books, but what did we pay him for the privilege? How does that feed into FFP? I assume any pay-off would be included in the overall expenditure / wage bill for the season.
I wouldn't have thought there'd necessarily be a payoff for him if the contract had been cancelled with immediate effect by mutual consent. Immers would then be a free agent and could (if he hasn't already done so) negotiate a nice lucrative contract elsewhere with another club who wouldn't have to pay a fee for him.
Hope that is the case. I always worry that 'mutual consent' is a euphemism for 'we gave him some cash so he'd agree to go'. £2M we paid for him. Not good business for me, but obviously there is a bigger picture that the paymasters at the club see. Also confirmed that Meite has signed, so two in.
The Bluebirds have also completed a deal to sign striker Ibrahim Meite, 20, from non-league Harrow Borough.

There isn’t a position that I haven’t played. It’s something that I’ve got in my locker and hopefully I can use it." “I was with Whitts [Peter Whittingham] with England U21s," he added. "I was with Joe Bennett at Brighton and Pelts [Lee Peltier] with Nottingham Forest as well. There are a few of the lads that I know already, which makes it a lot easier. “I’m here now, I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can do well for the team.”
