Les Reed: fine Jose, go, but you'll only be a bench warmer for united anyway Fonte: (while pointing to this seasons playing stats) ahem?
I'd forgotten about Gardos. I think I have only seen him about twice - probably about 50% of his performances to date. Do you have any younger, central defenders coming through the academy or are they all midfielders?
Lets be real for a second, we are all gutted/annoyed if he leaves for pastures new mainly due to the fact he is Captain and has been here for years, but in terms of playing level he's been no better then Yoshida and a shadow of what he has been the last few seasons. He is replaceable as a player, but maybe not so much in terms of stature around the club.
The guy has been an absolute hero for us, one of our all time greats. I'm sad to see him go, but used to it now. Modern football is really, really ****.
Not really, he's still shown season after season the level he can play at, culminating in a European finals. I'll be sad to see him leave as the last strand of our league one memories but at this point football is just cold hard business, nothing personal.
Have you been watching this season? Granted its probably a mixture of his heads not in it, but he hasn't been great. Carried by VVD a lot of the time, and definitely not been leading the team on the pitch.
IMO we will not be offered our valuation nor will we sign a replacement in time ....so he's going nowhere this Jan.
You are surely joking? For me, Fonte is the best foreign servant this club has had since Ivan Golac. I am sad that his departure has ended like this as, along with Sir Rickie Lambert, Jose Fonte stands for what this club has achieved since promotion from the third tier. He will always be a Saints Legend.
Now that man is a true legend. His Southampton form of never leaving his 6 yard box has moved fluidly to Forster though!
Obviously. What I was trying to say was that his performances this season have been average compared to previous, and that if we were going purely by playing performance it doesn't matter if Yoshida steps in for the rest of the season.
Don't like the atmosphere that 'seems' to be enveloping the club. I have always thought that Jose was an honourable person, regardless of what he did on the pitch. He is obviously upset about something and has decided to sort it out by being open and requesting, not demanding, a transfer. Other players in the past have gone on strike or gone about things in an underhand way. I will be sad to see him go, if it happens, as he is a club legend. Like Sir Rickie, he has given his all for the club but is getting on and will need replacing sometimes. Not playing in Europe must have hit him hard, as he was the one player I expected to on the team sheet. As I don't have any real facts, I will wait and see. The powers that be must do what is best for the club. My opinion counts for nothing. Even I think it's rubbish at times.
Fair play Jose, you've gone about it the right way. Wish him no ill will. Be interested to see where he goes, if he ends up at Utd then even more fair play as he wouldn't get that opportunity again.
All a bit messy if you ask me. Can't see a great ending here? Someone on saintsweb has said that whilst he is not in the know, he has a few contacts in the midlands and in the North inside clubs, where he has been told that the word is that there was an argument between some senior players with Puel & Black after the WBA game, where it was suggested that Puel & Black have not got a clue what they are doing? This is why Kruger went away to the Everton game on Monday???
Adam Blackmore said that he didn't know why Krueger was there, but there wasn't any team talk or chat pre match involving Krueger. No idea about the dressing room part, but would seem unlikely to me.
Does "the right way" include telling lies about his new contract? I don't bear him any ill will, by the way, I'm just saying.
