I am likely to turn it down They aren't budging on their insistence of employing people behind the bar that don't know which drink is which. I can't work in a place like that. EA also dared to question signing Billy Whitehurst (he was fine with Chazz running the catering though and agreed to Askew being the coach driver, but only on a one month contract while he isn't boozing) If someone else is offered it you'll know I made my decision and stuck by it. Sad times
If it is Marco Silva then that is a belting appointment, When I first heard the news last night I was originally furious but the more I thought about it the more I realised it was the correct decision. Now don't get me wrong I want the Allams out but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as if they are bringing Silva in then they also have to be willing to spend money in the transfer window as he wouldn't come if there wasn't money to be spent. And lets face it when you compare the managerial stats of Marco Silva and Mike Phelan, I defiantly know which one I would rather let spend the clubs money! And to anyone who says 'no thanks I would rather have Gary Rowett' please take yourself to the nearest padded cell and lock yourself in it! Gary Rowett maybe one day will be a premier league manager but lets face it the guys biggest achievement is taking a Birmingham team to near the play offs! Hardly an amazing feat is it, whereas Silva has been successful everywhere he has been, including managing in the champions league. He will also clearly have more chance of attracting the level of player we require. Again if it is Silva and the Allams give him money to spend then for once they have got it right!
Silva hasn't managed in England, let alone the PL. Rowett built and managed a very good Burton side, he then built a very good Birmingham City side with pretty much no money and sold Gray to Leicester. It is highly likely we'll be in the Championship next season. For that, I know who I would rather have managing the club - he isn't Portuguese.
There is nearly half a season to go, we are not relegated yet, so why not have a go with someone of his calibre? He could well be the next remi garde, but he also could be the next top manager in this league, we just don't know but like I say I would much rather take a punt on him then Rowett. Rowett also has no experience of the premier league and could well be the next Sean Dyche but he also could be our next Ian Dowie. Who bloody knows
The people saying I'd rather have Gary Rowett are the same people who always say 'what about that lad who's banging in goals in League 1?' They have no idea about levels! Silva - Managed at Olympiakos and Sporting Rowett - Managed at Burton and Birmingham Hmm which do we choose!
They say that about a lot of managers. They have to manage in England for the first time at some point. A manager who has proved himself properly in the premier league is well out of our grasp. We either take a gamble or appoint steady mediocrity.
I get your point , but as both those leagues are about the same level as the championship , it's a tight call
His record before joining Chelsea. Slight difference. Porto[213] Primeira Liga: 2002–03, 2003–04 Taça de Portugal: 2002–03 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira: 2003 UEFA Champions League: 2003–04 UEFA Cup: 2002–03
With Porto. Silva took an unfancied second tier team like us (once), got them promoted and immediately on to a fifth place finish and the europa league in their first top flight season. He won the domestic cup with Sporting. He pissed he league with Olympiakos which is on a par with Mourinho winning the Portuguese league with Porto. The big difference is obviously the European trophies, but Mourinho with Porto had a gigantic armoury in comparison. This is quite an exciting appointment for us. This guy certainly has pedigree.
Like Aaron McLean. Craig Mackail Smith. That chap who went to Wednesday (Gary Mardyarse or something?) A lot more fail to make the grade higher up. And for the record Andre Gray never played in league one did he?
Yes, I already made that point. And, instead of winning trophies and setting records like Silva has done, didntbhe mive to Southampton on the back of getting Espanyol relegated?
