Don't agree about not having windows. Means you could get players making bids for players before they play them to try unsettle them.

And itll help help the richer teams far more. They can afford to spend cash all season so if they get injurycrises can just go buy a couple more to strengthen their own team.

Teams at the botttlm will find they lose their players more frequently as well, have a good opening 10 games and clubs will come in for them.

Leicester wojldnt have have won the league if that was case last year as they'd have lost Kante at some through the season if inagine.

Some experts think that if we had a more reliable LB than Moreno then he'd be playing and Milner would be in Midfield..
If Klopp wanted to play Milner in midfield he'd have bought a LB by now!
Think, right now, given who we have in midfield and upfront, only way Milner plays CM is if we have an injury crisis, and even then don't think Klopp would want to make that switch, he trusts/needs what Milner can bring to the team from the LB position.

I think Klopp just looked at Milner and the situation in our squad and with available players to buy and thought this bloke will make a very good LB and moved him there. I think he'll keep playing that position for the rest of his time with us now and will hopefully keep on improving there as he has over the course of this season. He's one of the best LBs in the league now which is pretty amazing given where he was before, we do need cover/competition though as we all know Moreno is pants putting it politely. Fortunatley Milner has a good work ethic and is motivated to do well so he doesn't necessarily need the threat of being dropped like a lot of other players shamefully seem to

Milner is the ultimate pro. Feel bit sorry as he moves from city as he wanted to play more at CM rather than wing and been shoved at LB but he's been so consistent that's he made place his own.

No moaning, just gets on and does the job.

I think it was Klopp that recently spoke about him (or maybe was someone else) that referred to piczcek (sp) where he started as a striker before moving to a winger and eventually a very good maurading RB. Seem similar with Milner there.

I thjnk long term yes prob need another Lb as I don't think Klopp trusts Moreno (brought him on and played him lw with Milner at Lb) so need competition and long term but I doubt anything will happen in Jan.

FFS...<doh>

That never happened before the windows were introduced btw. There wasn't as much focus on transfers back then because there wasn't a short space of time when they all happened, it was only the final months that transfers weren't allowed (therefore eliminating that tactic you suggest since it would only happen between rivals)

When were they introduced? Thought they'd been around all time I've watched football so don't really know what happened before. But was no where near as much money in it and pressure to stay in premier league or getting CL etc

Not sure, mid-nineties I think

EDIT: made compulsory by Fifa for the 2002-03 season. That's when the PL adopted it too

Later than I thought then. Although o was prob just about getting into it properly at that point so prob why don't really remember how worked before that

Before the window you could buy a player at any time up to about 12noon on a friday and have time to register them to play saturday.

I think there might have been some time where it did sort of end for the season

The one thing it didnt have was this agent and press frenzy but i couldnt say if thats just from the money and technological changes at this point.

Sky have always driven the deadline day frenzy i know that.

And i think bungs were always part of transfers. A deadline might have made them juicier i dont know but many old nanagers were famed for it

I'm not against transfers (although, if a clubs way of staying financially viable is through transfers alone they have problems).

I'm against specific windows for transfers. I think it inflated prices and unlike it's intention to level the playing field by not letting big teams buy their way out of injury crisis it has the opposite effect because the bigger the team the more they can spend on backup players and often have 2 teams of almost equally strong players.

I'd rather they cap the number of players that may be transferred in one season than have transfer windows.

Outside of the premiership (and possibly the top half of the championship) this is the business model adopted by a fair few clubs. Find a young "gem" start to develop them and move them on for big bucks.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. It just isn't a long term financiallu viable plan. A couple of seasons without a great young player to sell and you're bankrupt.

Russian roulette. Eventually you get a bullet.

Yeah but if you cant get 10k fans in the door you cant do anything either.

Clubs cut their cloth to meet their measure.

If champ club are now chucking 10mil at players due to parachute payments system then getting to the pig trough now becomes all but impossible which makes the bournemouth story all the more heartening imo

Are you lot convinced klopp is looking for a lb and goalie?

Reason I ask is its not something he has made any effort to address with Milner and Karl us with migs doing a job.

We all want a cb as well as not many convinced by Lovern, but he partners matip well enough and have cover.

Attack can always be tweaked, maybe he is looking to strengthen there first as backup options we are quite light on.

Yes we are still ****e at the back, but we keep scoring plenty other end hopefully with time the defence will sort itself out and grow in confidence.
