Mason (and Henriksen) generally don't do anything grossly wrong per se, they seem competent, tidy players. And that's the problem because we're used to/appreciate physically bigger men who get stuck in and are more aggressive and/or moan and complain and bitch and generally show "passion". Mason in particular just doesn't have Hudd's presence, nor does he impose or control the play like he does.
Any other season they'd have more of a chance to bed in and shine, but the pressure is on, particularly with Mason's fee.

I'm not sure why Mason and Henriksen get lumped together, I think Henriksen looks half decent and if he wasn't stuck on with Mason all the time, he'd look better.

Mason put Elmo under pressure with a bad pass. He just looks lost. He cant seem to fit in. Maybe the only good thing is him coming in has pricked Tom's conscience/pride??
I agree, I think Henriksen will turn out ok, like Clucas. I tend to put all our August signings together as bringing any of them on seems to trigger an avalanche of moaning from the people behind me, which in turn leads to complaints and shouting instructions to Phelan, like he is going to hear them from the back of East Stand.
The problem with Mason is the price. For that money you expect a specialist of some sort:
- a box to box workhorse
- a midfield general
- a ruthless enforcer
- a goalscoring schemer
- an athletic leader
- a presence who upsets the opposition midfield
but as yet we've seen none of these.
Not sure what type of player he is, googled him earlier and his goalscoring record was unexceptional and he appears to have had one very good season under Pochettino before losing his place to Dier. Roy Hodgson gave him a cap in a friendly. He must have summat in him that top managers see and he must be hiding it.
Let's hope Phelan can drag it out of him.
People need someone to blame, right now it's Mason, it used to be Myler, Huddlestone was the scapegoat for a while too.
It's fair to say Mason hasn't performed for us yet, however, anyone that's seen him play to his potential knows he's a very good footballer. It maybe the system, tactics, confidence, fitness, or homesickness we just don't know, but it's down to the management team to figure that out and get the best from him.
What sure as hell isn't helping is people sarcastically clapping and cheering when he gets substituted or groaning when he gets brought on, the lad needs our support, he's part of a team that has been put into an impossible situation by our incompetent owners, we're all in it together and turning on our players is the last thing we should be doing.

Mason is going to be a Ben Arfa/Gaston Ramirez for us, good player before we signed him, talent goes missing for us, good player for whoever signs him from us.
I'd have brought Meyler on before either of them, it does seem like Phelan is trying to justify his signings sometimes by favouring them in his selections.
Marshall must be glad when Mason comes on and the negativity gets refocused on him.
I've read all the match reports and watched the pundits and none seem to attribute the substitution(s) as the turning point. It was Robbo's rash challenge.
From that point we had to open up and chase the game and it was Goodnight Vienna.
The BBC made the point about all the pens we concede due to 'ill luck and bad judgment'. In the last 3 games , it was Robbo's error, non existent foul at WHU and Snodgrass' rashness v Zaha. We have been competitive in all these games and did enough to win 2 of them.
As MP says we have to cut out the basic individual errors, it's killing us. This is made ten times worse because our owners have not allowed Steve Bruce or Mike Phelan to sign PL quality strikers, so the attention is focused on the shortcomings of the defence.
It should be on the shortcomings of the owners.
Don't expect that **** Lineker and Wrighty to mention that in their analysis though.

As you say it might be homesickness, struggling to settle in at the Gilson, who knows.
robertson would never have made the error if Hudd had still been running the game - we lost the core and control when he went off and Robbo panicked. MSM have no idea about Hull City with the exception of Louise Taylor at the Guardian.
Not so much the whole crowd booing, but there were moans and groans around me. He's certainly had the sarcastic applause when he's been substituted a few times.
