The thing is more people are becoming famous because of media etc plus people have become obsessed with celebrities, so I predict within ten years hundreds will die every month
Though I get your point it's not strictly true. Yes there are some people who worship celebrity and make the likes of big brother contestants and that kind of ilk a celebrity. I am not one of them, I'd go on millionaire or something similar as I'd probably do well but it's the bit about being on TV that I don't like.
People like George Michael who are famous as an upshot of their body of work are different. I'm not being a snob but George Michael does carry a celeb status more than Chico would!

George Michael's lifestyle almost certainly caused his untimely death, but few can argue that he was a properly talented singer and song writer.
