I'm with Chaos here. I understand people want to pay respect to their idols. We are though predominantly a football forum and famous people die everyday day of the year. Everyone has different tastes and if we all started a thread every time someone we respected died it would literally be a RIP forum. Just think we have to be careful to not detract. I like off topic threads when they are varied. Interesting **** happens all the time which can stimulate debate. I'm just not sure these do. And if you don't like said celebrity or what they did in their lifetime, you might want to post that on the RIP thread. People then get sensitive and say "is there any need to put that on a thread passing on good wishes". Er you can't have it all ways, it's an open forum. The sensible solution is to have one RIP thread in my opinion. It can be long running and then you don't have to view it if it is of no interest. You could do likewise with these but as I say, at what point is it too much?
