South Korea becomes the SEVENTH country to agree to strike new trade links with Britain after Brexit as Liam Fox vows to make the UK the 'hub of global commerce' Officials from the two countries will meet four times a year in new working group New trade links with South Korea will help UK become 'global hub of commerce' South Korea follows Australia, New Zealand, Norway, China, India and Gulf nations in agreeing to strike new trade links after Brexit South Korea became the seventh country to agree to strike new trade links with Britain after Brexit. Officials from the two countries have created a new working group that will meet four times a year to discuss tearing down trade barriers between the two economies. It will help Britain become the 'hub of global commerce,' the International Trade Secretary Liam Fox pledged today. Trade between Britain and South Korea, the world's eleventh largest economy, is currently worth £11billion. But the Government cannot strike new trade deals while it remains a member of the EU. With Theresa May set to trigger the two-year process for cutting ties with Brussels by the end of March, Britain is set to be free to agree new trade deals from spring 2019. South Korea, the eleventh biggest economy in the world, follows Australia, China, India, New Zealand, Norway and the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to agree Britain once it leaves the EU. Donald Trump's new trade secretary has also promised to make a trade deal between the US and the UK one of his top priorities. Billionaire Wilbur Ross, who has done many deals with British business over the years, is said to want to strengthen the 'special relationship'. The new working group with South Korea will focus on 'tackling barriers to market access, trade and investment and wider global trade issues'. Mr Fox wrote in the Telegraph: 'We want to take advantage of all the opportunities available to us, to ensure that Britain becomes a global leader in free trade.'
