I know you're not actually condoning it, just presenting a balanced viewpoint.

Tell you what though, if they did go so far as to deduct points for it then it'd be a very brave player that would continue to dive. It's like Full Metal Jacket, Private Pyle can take the personal insults and punishments to an extent but when the whole group gets punished for his mistakes is when it really hits home.

To me, clubs being hit with real sanctions for cheating players would force a dramatic shift from clubs passively encouraging diving to making damn sure that none of their players ever dives and I think we can all agree that would be better for the current and future state of our sport.

Actually, points deductions might work quite well. I hadn't thought of that. I was just thinking along the lines of cancelling out any goals scored as a result of diving, which would be a daft thing to do.

Clubs would demand that the FA or whoever could prove beyond doubt that their player had dived though. You might just end up with a Snodgrass-esque "sorry, I was trying to avoid the tackle" and the whole thing gets bogged down in a grey area again. You'd have to have willingness on the part of the clubs to stamp it out too.

Ok cake stand, it's probably best we make some sort of colouring in thread for you, as clearly you're not blessed with even the most basic conversational skills.

When Brian Clough did his cruciate, didn't our very own Bob Stokoe (playing for Bury at the time, obvs) stand over him and accuse him of feigning injury? If there were no instances of players diving or pretending to be injured in the 1960s, why would Stokoe have thought that Clough was pretending?

Nothing passive about it though! They train it on the continent and the pro coaches at u11 were training it last season for one of the teams in my sons league. Teaching kids how to fall over and look like they'd been caught.

Annoys the hell out of me.

It is frustrating and I don't particularly like it. However, whether the public want to see it or not seems to depend on the football culture you were brought up in. In Britain, we don't like it. In places where the ability to deceive the referee is considered to be a positive thing there may not be so much demand from the public to stamp diving out. Any moves to eradicate diving have to be worldwide or you risk the game diverging and different versions of football developing in different places.

Nope, I was born in 1984 so anything sort of pre-90 I'd have trouble remembering.

Regardless of this, every team, in the modern game has had it's divers... I'm glad it has you twisted up like a pretzel in front of a computer though, nothing makes me happier on this cold, damp day. <laugh>

A fact I've just raised on another thread seems fitting here.

Stooey logic: Player dives - CHEAT SPOILING THE GAME!!!

Stooey logic: Mourinho has little rant on camera - SPOILING THE GAME!!!

Stooey logic: Sunderland run completely irresponsibly and spend well outside of their means - tumbleweed rolls across Norfolk.

It's just a person falling over Stooey, don't work yourself up into a frenzy, there's more important things on your agenda surely?

I'm sure Dot down the community centre could do with some help with the Nativity?
