But that would suggest the opposite. He spent a good portion of time there and they decided he wasn't good enough.

Alzate is a good player that is following a line of previous players that our fans dramatically over rate. I wish we never did this as when people realise they aren't as good as they are built up to be they get slated.

Why ? Do you think players should be allowed to use PEDs then ?

I'm not suggesting that anything should change. Just, that I don't give a crap if they've done it, and received their punishment. The players may see it differently, so that would obviously need to be taken into consideration.

I trust my eyes on Alzate. He’s by far and away our best player. Maybe overrate him slightly but if we are constantly trying to downplay our own where’s the fun. I really don’t think there is a better holding midfielder in the division.

I’m waiting for someone to suggest a holding midfielder that’s better.

I agree, I mentioned this this morning. Ampadu. Perhaps Cullen. And that’s about it.

    Or the cov ones?

No one is doubting he’s a good player
But ideally he should be the skipper but doesn’t seem like a big organiser or a shouter

Alzate's looked pretty good for us so far but I don't see a big PL club coming in for him just yet, I mean, Brighton didn't fancy him and they're not particularly big. If we stay up I think he'll be with us for the 25/26 season.

Personally I look at his natural ability like I did with KLP who was Rooneyesque in his ability to open his body and move easily , Alzate is definitely up there , my only provisor is Omur is like that but has failed to deliver his promise . On Alzate don’t some of you see how easy he receives a ball and creates time and space to play the ball to help retain possession? there are so few if any like that in the division , most are runners with decent passing and tackling so offer a variation in skill and effectiveness - I hope Alzate helps us succeed with his skills.

Álzate clearly a very good player but he’s hardly been a standout. Would doubt if anyone would be in for him unless we were actively looking to offload at this point in time.

As the person who started all this by questioning Newcastle on it, I would say yes I definitely do see that, but without knowing much about other squads in the division I just assume that other clubs will have similar players, and some of their fans won't know about Alzate but will be saying the same things about their equivalent. If you asked fans of every team in the league who the best holding midfielder in the league is I'd be surprised if anyone mentioned him, though admittedly that probably reflects more on our profile as a club than on him.

It’s probably Ampadu on balance. But Alzate certainly had 2 very good games against Blunts and TWS.

Does someone have a list of the holding midfielders in the league? I could rattle off some names who seem to be having better seasons but they might get disqualified on a technicality of the position they play.

In terms of lone 6’s I don’t think many do it. Ampadu is probably the best for that

I suppose then that that's part of the point, as you'd be needing a team who plays with a lone 6 to be interested in him, as there's plenty of players doing well in a double pivot which seems more common.

Lone 6 is much more demanding though he wouldn’t have to be used as one. Much easier to sign someone capable of playing lone and use him in a 2 as opposed to vice versa
