Am fed up of moaning, being negative myself, but it seems backwards to have a new manager paired with a number 2 that he doesn't want, why even do such a thing? its hard to be positive at the mo when such strange decisions are made, not just with the coaches, but signing players. Granted avb has a tough job, but Harry wasn't a newcomer last year, and Harry did have a tough job when he first arrived so maybe its wrong to compare avb now, with harry last year, as they was at different stages. One thing I'm sick of hearing, is about avb and his time at porto and his unbeaten season! how many times do we have to hear about this? i appreciate some fans are just trying to find positives about avb, but Ramos was famous for the way his sevilla team played, yet did we play like sevilla? no. Maybe some managers just excel with a certain type of team, group of players and simply just can't transfer that to another team. I hope we haven't ended up with a complete dud, but I can't help think he is a complete disaster as manager for us.
I know, I know. I basically feel the same as you do I think, Boss. I just hope that negativity on here does not translate to negativity in the stadium. Like I say - it's an act of effort to feel optimistic right now but personally I feel I've got to try. And no - knowledge of what AVB did in ONE season with a team that has won their championship 8 out of the last eleven years (thank you Wikipedia) gives me zero reason to feel hopeful. Sometimes football, football fans and football chairmen can be downright ****ing stupid sometimes. Still, look on the bright side - at least the really important things have improved: Harry isn't offending us fans by making comments in some newspaper or something. That is SO much more important than qualifying for the CL.
Yeah the negativity in the stadium isn't right. I don't generally see a problem in fans expressing their anger on forums but I can understand if enough fans do it and most of the fans that attend games, then it could transfer, yet I would hope fans understand when they arrive at a match that it doesn't matter what they/we think about a manager/player, the important thing is to support Tottenham.
The problem with a new manager coming in with a "philosophy" is that many players in the squad may not be able to fit with his requirements (see liverpool). A good manager makes his system fit the players at his disposal and then changes the squad over a period of years to fit the system he want`s/favours.
unless the chairman is willing to try to help the new manager by getting in players he needs and shifting out those he does not......which i think Levy did....apart from the Moutinhio thing which could have been handled better by Levy.....but apart from that he has worked hand in hand with AVb...unlike Brenda and LFC.
Why is Freunds appointment a Joke? He was doing well working with the German youth teams, and is a former Spurs player. Makes it a great one in my book. Goon fans are always saying they should have more ex players on their back room staff, and look what Bould has done to their deffense. 0 conceded in 3 games.... same old Arsenal!!
It seems to me that AVB understands this. eg Defoe as lone striker in a 451 with two wingers and lots of diagonal cross-field balls from the back will never work. Defoe playing in front of Bale, Dembele and Sig with these three playing a pressing game and thus close to JD, with most passing on the ground actually might work. Under Harry the first XI in 4411 with everyone fit worked superbly except against the top sides and nothing else worked at all.
Because three years working with U-16s in Germany is really no qualification to being number two for a top EPL team at all. Neither is the fact that that he has no relationship or rapport with his new boss (AVB). And personally I see his ex-player status as offering zero reason as to why he should be a good coach. You saying he'd make a good coach at Spurs but not at Charlton just cos he never played for Charlton. He's not there cos AVB wanted him, he's there cos Levy wanted to appease the Spurs fans by bringing in an old fan's favourite. I can see no other reason at all as to why he's at the club. And I'm never a fan of making coaching/management appointments simply based on ex-player status.
Of course I will, but so far I don't rate him, and if he thinks JD can be a successful lone striker in the Prem then he's living in la la land and I can't see me ever rating him. Carroll is and will continue to be a better lone striker than Defoe.
Hi tots I honestly don't know how to reply to that post, so I'll leave it. I'll simply remind you that I've been supporting Spurs for over 50 years.
ok that's enough. I didn't respond to tots, but I can't keep reading these attacks on me. You're both entitled to your opinions, but I find them very hurtful, so I'm afraid I'll have to leave you two to have a field day against me from now on, as I won't be replying to either of you anymore.
its not an attack....its an observation..you can have your opinion as much as you want...one thing opinions do is to cause debate,agreement,disagreement.....etc. this board would be boring if all we did was just nod our heads at each other...i can handle your opinion i just disagreed.....however both our views are there to add to debate..if i quite simply started abusing you or called you an 'idiot' etc for your view then that would be wrong..all i did was say to you that according to me it seems like there is no difference between the 2 acts..nobody is questioning your support for Spurs...and that was just 1 comment by me..and i still stand by the remark...because to me the two things are 1 of the same...its nothing personal. to call them attacks is a bit dramatic and if im wrong no doubt the mods will pull me up on it....far from an attack GH...and i dont want this to become the debate..ive explained myself now.
Snap, all i'm saying is 3 games is a bit early to be unhappy with AVB running of the team,as thy need time to gel,get to know how each other play etc, which can't be done whilst training
,i'm sorry if you thought it was an attack on you and i upset you,the mouser bit was tongue in cheek.
Fair enough Tots,I can be over-sensitive I know - but really putting me down as a liverpool fan was a bit too much I actually can't stand all the mouser stuff that goes on in this board, and don't get the Liverpool obsession. But I say nowt about it, because if other people like that sort of banter, fine. When I go to the Lane to watch Spurs I get right behind the team and even at my age am louder and more enthusiastic than most in the ground, I don't boo and I don't slag off our players, management or owners. On a forum board though, I think it's perfectly acceptable to criticise players, managers, owners, etc. Even then I don't say nasty things, unlike the stuff I sometimes read on here and often on other Spurs websites.
Fair enough SL, I don't think expressing disillusion on a forum is like booing at a game, but I take your point and move on.
Hang on, did i miss something? I thought Freund and AVB knew each other? Didn't they become mates when doing their coaching badges together or something?
