You've got to hand it to Roy Hodgson, though...

    true.

but he still got 41 points from 31... that'd put them on 50 or 53 points which is easily top half any year.

you are right. his level is mid table at best and he has delivered it again.

    he is competant

Didn't Rafa sign Agger and Skrtel?

If memory serves me right, Pellegrini was Hyypia's replacement at the time

yes he bought several lads as he was in for years.

skertl was his rcb not really meant for lb but ended up there with carra.

we had 4 and storos was signed as cover.

agger was a crock and all that.

so... was it not the case that an inkling of financial trouble was rafa was looking for a cb and had only 4mil.

    I remember the story.

I agree H&G were the problem but Woy was never going to do anything at Liverpool even if he'd been given a £1b budget!

Well when he was with England he virtually had that. Ok so there wasn't any actual budget at all but if you consider that he could pick any English player he wanted its almost like having a ridiculous budget.

Its not so much who you buy its how those players are used. Woys England were dire, wanted them to play and defend like a relegation threatened team, back against the wall and try to nab a goal.

Palace is perfect for Woy, never going to challenge for anything so there is no pressure, no pressure to play good football, no pressure to win every game. The only requirement is to stay up, even if it happens on the last day.

Obviously not. Never blamed Woy for taking the chance. I think he's a prick for the speech he took and comments he made.

Yep, very limited manager that's also shackled by his own mindset

I also understand he refused to play Roberto Carlos at LB when at Inter, because he was too attacking and played him at LW instead. Lead to Carlos leaving to Madrid, and we all know how that turned out.

Because he wanted to be more cautious, it cost Inter one of the best LB's (best at the time).

Pick the same old and the stifled them even more than before.

Remember the same old achieved more under Capello than under Woy.

It's the same with the ever present 5 or 6... despite a couple of them pointing to records 20 years back or boasting they could do Real .... they only succeed with a club that surviving is good...mid table is great.

It's why Fat Sam isn't for Everton .... they have had enough of that crap if there's transfer money to spend and new stadium etc etc.

fair enough he is a prick.

he's still not responsible for the damage done compared to the clowns who ran the place and appointed him

Nope, he definitely isn't. Even if he was it would still be H&G since they appointed him

When you're used to being one of the big teams and lose or draw against nobodies and Woy comes out and says we should get used to not being a big team and not complain about losing... Yeah, he was never going to be liked.

    He's got a loser mentality.

This was the problem. This is Hodgson's level, and he made the mistake of thinking that we should be happy with it being ours too.
He's pretty good at what he does, but he'll never be able to take the next step up from that, and he didn't realise that we would never, ever be happy to accept that. Even if we're not at the top, we will always strive for it, always be hungry for it. He wasn't.
He's not a bad bloke really, but he was never a good fit for a club like ours. He has his niche, and it suits him.

I bet he makes good pancakes. I don't know for sure, but he has that look about him that makes you think he probably makes good pancakes.

I'm going to focus on that as his saving grace. Pancakes.

Yep, he’s a small club manager. Fair play, he does what he needs to do. But this palace squad is quite expensive and should be doing a lot more.
