Less loanee watch, more ex-Canary watch: Harry Toffolo has been released by Milwall this summer, after failing trouble their first team once. Andrew Crofts is out of contract this summer Michael Turner is also a free agent, after scoring a remarkable 4 goals in 25 league one appearances.
Good 'end of term' report for our 2 loanees at Shrewsbury - 'Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst would love another year with Norwich City loanees Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris – but knows that’s just another element at stake come Sunday’s EFL League One play-off final against Rotherham United at Wembley.' http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...st-would-love-godfrey-morris-return-1-5531304.
Ebou Adams (let go by the club) has failed to agree a contract with Leyton Orient, despite them wanting him. Presumably that means that he'll be back in the football league soon then, as the player has said it wasn't finances that stopped him signing. Orient's goal of the season (scored by Adams) is at 2min30:
NA certainly has a point - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...g-canaries-can-excel-in-loan-market-1-5535575 As much as I wanted Godfrey to be recalled in January, the extra 5 months at Shrewsbury has certainly helped his development and crowned by 2 trips to Wembley!!
I'm so happy that Neil was given the job and he accepted the challenge. It could have ended in tragedy when his spell as manager ended so badly. He now returns to the fold as a success. OTBC
I can remember the dilemma last January, JMF, but looking long term it was the right decision, as you say. Hopefully both Godfrey and Morris will be up and running when the pre-season starts. I feel the same, Dave. Many scoffed at Neil's new role, but now we seem to have taken the lead in this aspect of the game. Well done Neil.
I too am glad that his failed managerial experience has not blighted his Canary career. Most of the youngsters he will be trying to find loans for have spent time under his stewardship at the club, so will know him well. His comment that he has known TC (acknowledgement to JMF ) since he was 10 years old is testement to this fact.
I've just read this and whilst I'd love TC to be part of the first team squad next season, I'd have no issues if he went back on loan to Sittard, as he'd come back a more developed player. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...-matthews-spells-away-from-canaries-1-5535587
Another insight into how well Neil's loan management is working. I've been following TC for years and have always felt he had potential, but was rather lightweight for the physical challenges. His cameo against Chelsea suggested progress, but Neil says his loan has brought his development on hugely. Matthews has developed through a series of loans, but Plymouth has propelled him forward, as Neil says. I live in the Southwest and they love him down here. He was huge in turning around their season from fighting relegation to just missing the play-offs. Hopefully both players, like Godfrey and Morris, are ready to fill gaps in our squad without any spending. City's future depends on this continuing year after year.
Regular football at an appropriate level will always develop a player significantly more than occasional football at higher level than they are ready for. Neil is an excellent coach. As a manager he was either put in place before he was ready without the skill set for role.
Yes canario, I see the logic of that now. Had Godfrey stayed, then he would have had occasional games for the Under 23s, as opposed to - Playing against Wet Sham in the FA Cup, (and not looking overawed) playing week in, week out and 2 trips to Wembley!!!!
Half Time and Rotherham leading 1-0. MB comes up with the stat that in the last 27 times this tie has been played, the team which scores first has gone on to win. Morris & Godfrey doing well - but some of their Shrewsbury team-mates have had a tricky 45 minutes there. Edit 1-1. Morris hobbling, but trying to carry on. Had to go off eventually. Henderson (Shrews GK) playing a blinder!! Edit 2. Finished 1-1 after 90 Minutes, so ET Edit 3. Rotherham take the lead - similar to their first goal and poor defending from Shrewsbury.
Shrews fail at Wembley again!!! So a trip to the Yankee Stadium awaits us next season and Godfrey played well.
Shame in the end, but the better team on the day went through. Rounds off an excellent season's experience for both Godfrey and Morris though.
