An seeing as Cameron has stepped down we're going to be guided through the Brexit process by an unelected official.

I'm not happy with this voting for a party nonsense it's very clear to me that the party puts up a figurehead that presents and implements the partys manifesto, the vast majority vote for that person as our Prime Minister. It may well be a lack of understanding of UK politics but it is a fact.
Indeed as was Cameron..only people that elected him were his constituency.
I can understand people will be uneasy by this but what is the alternative. List systems under PR where you don't even vote for the candidate never mind the executive? And I'm just talking about this specific point regarding PM's and govt. Not a system that is more reflective of the vote %.
Na...if that was the case so much care wouldn't be taken in constituency selection process.
Now I happen to agree there should be a snap GE due to the extraordinary circumstances...huge constitutional change as well as so much change in both main political parties.
Also listening to May she sounds like she's taking a significant departure from the manifesto Camerons Tory party was elected on. As will Labour if Corbyn goes. With that in mind I think the country needs to get another say.
I understand however the possible argument that there has been too much instability already and a GE would continue that with adverse effect on the economy..personally I think that's short term..stability would come from a party elected to govt, post Brexit vote with a clear plan of what happens next and a mandate that has been approved by the electorate...

you are talking about changing the system here not what was voted for and she was elected and was always a cabinet minister. like......

The referendum was carried by 17.5 million people out of a 46 million electorate. We can't say how it would go if everyone voted, and those who didn't vote can't complain if apathy got them something they don't want - but it's a fact that a monumental decision about all our futures was won by about 38% of the electorate.
It's a flawed system, but it's all we have unless we go down the PR route.
Yeah...PR doesn't work well in a two party dominant system but up until the implosion of the Lib Dems it was looking more appropriate. If the Labour party splits I think PR of some sort needs to be looked at again. Especially with cracks appearing in the Union. What extra power that might give the SNP at Westminster needs looked at as well as UKIP...
From reading lots of comments over the history of this thread I'm not sure people will like the idea that a more representative voting system will give UKIP more chance of gaining extra seats in parliament...

I mean a no vote is abdication of the decision to others and a CLEAR choice. therefore peoepl who don't vote allow others to decide and should be happy either way..
The system of PR is no better really as the same don't care won't care won't vote... it just makes more parties and more loonies around the edges and leaves the same big party running the show.
IF we had PR the 3 million ukip racists would have many seats and a bigger voice.. sure maybe the libs would have more seats and then greens and communists etc etc...
BUt i'd say tories would still be in power.
I'm not saying PR would be better, just different.
I completely agree that those that chose not to vote can't complain - I said so. I don't know if they are complaining, tbh, but we the losers can't claim they'd be on our side, neither can the winners claim that the country is behind them.
I'm just pointing out that what we call democracy isn't really any such thing - it's just a workable system with little alternative.
Perhaps we should have whips to make everyone vote?

They always accuse labour of taking out the credit card,Osborne is not using debit card this time.

It looks increasingly that somehow the two party system needs to go. The Labour party is split and so are the Tories. There are people in both parties that should probably be somewhere else but have no other "home" to go to. As it is our new PM will be elected by approx 150,000 people (the Tory Party membership).
People do realise that they're now effectively following the economic plan that Milliband and Balls laid out in the last election?
Not that this has anything to do with the EU as its a separate arm but after making front page news the bombing of the turkish airports, whys there nothing about the perps.
