It will be interesting to see how the "new cabinet" get on. At least she has got rid of Osborne who was a complete pratt. I will reserve judgement and hope to be pleasantly surprised
funny thing is Gideon is even more conniving than Boris most of his decisions as chancellor were not for the good of the country but to get him the PM's job when Cameron left in 2019 and yet now he is gone. good riddance to a thoroughly nasty little **** as for "I will reserve judgement and hope to be pleasantly surprised" one fears your hopes may be dashed
Well if any of that hoohah that i just read about a lovely world of massive trade deals for "Things" with the whole world and europe coming begging actually xomes to pass itll be amazing. 1. Britian hasnt got all that to offer us and china bar a place to enter europe. Its not got amazing tech or astounding value so these trade deals are much more likely to floodcin chinese goods and us services than anything. Wheres all these deals for norway and switzerland??? 2. Eu has vested interest in breaking london and also has a huge vested interest in a penal trade deal for britian just to discourage. 3. The pot isnt endless. We can borrow for a while but the likelyhood is itll be german money we do borrow. 4. Finally higher wages???? For what? If we are required to compete for business then wages must be lower.
All this sabre-rattling talk about getting the "best possible" deal on the world stage would depend on us having the power to dictate our own terms - I think anyone who thinks we are still that big a player is kidding themselves. I imagine we'll be begging for inward investment and will be likely to offer corporations the best possible (for the owners) employment conditions, so I can only see this getting worse for the workforce, tbh. And all the politicians will say is that these are the conditions we have to accept if we want the trade and the jobs. For the same reason we'll probably relax food standards, so we can expect to be swimming in McDonalds pink slime before long.
you are working on the same premise as MITO that we don't invest to increase our productivity - now that is a more than reasonable assumption as our investment in R&D and new kit is pitiful hidden by the rise in GDP almost of all of which is accounted for by the rise in population However our car manufacturing industry has proved if investment is made we can deliver high quality goods at with good productivity the worry obviously with that theory is that the actual manufacturers are all foreign owned though not the huge supply chain.
Do you know what the right-wingers argue against that? You're a doom monger. You don't believe enough in your own country. That's right saint, ignore all rational reasoning and just believe mate. It will all come good if you believe in our greatness!!! Stick up a Fox Mulder poster on your wall that says "I want to believe" because lets face it, there's as much chance as believing in aliens on Earth as there is economic success from brexit.
Yet again I can't believe I've woken up into a world where another ridiculous political thing has happened ... this time Boris Johnson is Foreign Secretary, still pretty speechless about this decision wtactualf guys There has to have been some kind of deal for May to be PM she has to put Boris in one of the top jobs laid out by Tory backers, sponsors or investors, or maybe it was his supporters for him as PM saying they would cause trouble if he didn't get in the cabinet
Faceless unelected tory elite that have maneuvered the whole thing. Goves virtual career execution. May... yeah right.... shes the hodgson of the party. "Safe hands" my arse.
Making Boris Johnson a foreign Secretary is a compromise. The crown he was looking for is the one May is wearing. Boris Johnson is formidable and capable of dividing the conservative party. They are wise.
I think it's a smart move by May career wise. As London Mayor he spent the last years smoozing with the internationals especially the yanks. It's one of the "big four" positions so he can't whinge that the Brexiteers were left out. Despite his Brexit campaign he is an "internationalist"....he's not going to go around the world sabre rattling. And most of all...he's in one of the 3 positions along with his Brexit bedmates to put his money where his mouth was. If their claims were real that there's more money to be made in trade agreements with the rest of the world and the EU will back down anway; then he, Davis and Fox have to now prove them. If they somehow do it...May takes the credit for putting them in post so they can't touch her. If they fail miserably as expected they can hardly move against her on the "she was really remain" card. Sounds like she's playing the game rather than being manoeuvred..
Illuminati Do you remember the candidate who was nervous about joining a biotech because of the referendum? Turns put that was part of the reason. She was offered and then they increased the offer. It was not the only reason. She went back to meet the CEO (not a scientist - background is advertising), It was ostensibly for 'an informal chat'. He started off by asking her how old she was (whoops, shouldn't ask you that). He then asked her if she was married and went on to talk about the high cost of maternity cover and how the company employed a lot of females. Not really appropriate coming from a CEO
If Boris Johnson was on the side of David Cameron for the referendum "Remain" are going to win. He made enemies for himself by not co-operating with Cameroon. I do not think he cares, he's still popular, his inordinate ambition has cost him, no one knows the lenght of the damage.
