Merkel: UK can't have EU privileges w/o accepting duties. Makes a difference if UK is in family or not.

Merkel added that Germany wants to keep its close relations with Britain, but warned the UK no "cherry-picking".

She said whoever decides to leave the EU family cannot expect to keep privileges without keeping to obligations, whoever wants access to the free market must respect the EU's basic values.

She reminded parliament that Europe has got through many crises and challenges in the past, and will need to take a big step forward with European integration in the Brexit aftermath.

It is up to Britain to say how it wants to shape its future with Europe, she added. However, the Chancellor said theEU can only begin formal or informal talks with Britain after it triggers Article 50.

    .....

nothing new there. its just the real power spelling it out.

London Mayor Khan demands more autonomy for London after Brexit vote
London mayor Sadiq Khan has called for the city to be given more autonomy in the wake of the Brexit vote to protect it from economic uncertainty.

In a statement from his office, Mr Khan said:

"As much as I might like the idea of a London city state, I'm not seriously talking about independence today. I am not planning to install border points on the M25!

"But on behalf of all Londoners, I am demanding more autonomy for the capital - right now. More autonomy in order to protect London's economy from the uncertainty ahead, to protect the businesses from around the world who trade here and to protect our jobs, wealth and prosperity."

He stressed that he wasn’t “asking for London to get a bigger slice of the British pie”, only for Londoners to “get more control over the slice of the pie we already get.”

He reassured people in the rest of the UK that they will benefit from more devolution for London ”because when London succeeds, the rest of the country succeeds too. And when we fail, the entire nation fails.”

Speaking at The Times CEO Summit, Sadiq Khan urged the Government to “move fast” on devolution, and said “we can't hang around for the outcome of the negotiations before we give Londoners more control”.

So far Johnson is the biggest winner of Brexit, whether or not there is a constitutional u-turn on the referendum after Cameron has gone Boris will become British Prime Minister by default, and when the general election finally comes around there won't be an opposition worth voting for because of the comic capers going on in the Labour Party, so Boris is laughing all the way to a long stay at number 10.

And the biggest losers will as usual be the British tax payers, austerity will remain no matter what happens between now and the completion of the brexit process.

So, why not even more autonomy for ALL the city regions?, Khan knows that by keeping Londoners money in London it will be detrimental to the rest of the country, they already get the biggest piece of the economic pie in terms of transport for example, the crossrail tunnel and the brand new lines and trains and stations will cost £15b while some cities in the north will not be part of HS2 because its said it would cost to much.
Yep London is our capital city and should be attractive to investors and tourists but the rest of the country, especially places that are least able to fund a sustainable infrastructure deserve a "bigger slice of the pie" than London.

It won't be worth negotiating article 50 to try for a good deal after the damage Farage did this morning.
The Scottish MEP's heartfelt plea on behalf of his country wanting to remain in the EU was warmly received by the chamber.

And he wants a seat in the negotiations! Suppose it could be an effective tactic...if EU plays hardball we threaten them with sitting in a room for hours on end with Nigel....

I remember reading that marine experts reckon that as the Titanic broke up it 'stabilised', or the stern did, for a while before it continued it's 3 mile plunge to the Atlantic floor.

    Just a thought.

It's amazing really. He says "Let's be sensible and grown up about this" then launches into a tirade of childish insults, saying they've never done a days work, never done a job and never created a job between them. Then he says "we'll still be friends" and outlines all the nice things he'd like to keep from the EU whilst rejecting everything else.
It's surreal, how could anyone vote for this complete plank? He has the mind-set of a 10 year old.

I honestly don't know what's happening. He said they laughed at him when he said he'd get the UK out of the EU. So did I. I don't think I'll ever laugh at anything ever again.

London is the capital of England, more autonomy for London, Birmingham and Manchester are going to demand autonomy too. Crazy.

    No mate.

So far Boris is the biggest LOSER of Brexit.

He took the gig as the head of Leave (despite being pro remain in his stance previously) as an opportunity to do 2 things.
    1. Give his old public school rival a bloody nose
    2. Position himself as the PM in waiting after Leave narrowly lost, after having put up a good fight and appeasing the far right of his own party in the process.

Boris never expected Leave to win, and more importantly he didn't want them to win. The man isn't an idiot, he fully understood the economic ramifications of leaving unilaterally, as he's spoken about them in the past!

Unfortunately for Boris Leave did win, and then Cameron played his joker by walking away from it, and refusing to be the man that signs the death warrant for the UK economy i.e. Article 50. Which leaves Boris as the man who's ended up holding the bomb in his hands. He knows if he signs the UK resignation document he's politically dead once the implications of doing so start to really hit home. So now he's royally ****ed.

Boris saying the markets have stabilised as the losses were pounding in was amazing.

Right now I cannot believe the labour party have not hung drawn and quartered Corbyn.

    Not yet mate.

They all know (or most of them) that actually following through on this will be political suicide.

The Tory who signs it will be ****ed *hello Boris* and their party will be unelectable for a ****ing generation once the impact of the withdrawal hammers home over the coming few years. It's been kicked into the long grass by Cameron - who previously said he'd action article 50 the morning after a Leave result....

A new leader will have no mandate from the electorate on what the exit should look like and what terms would be deemed acceptable. Therefore the get out clause for all of them is a GE. The Liberals have already placed their stake in the ground saying they'd stand on an "over turn" ticket and I'd fully expect a post Corbyn Labour to do the same once it was called. The Tories might accept a parliament out of office as opposed to having to deal with the absolute **** storm that Brexit would deliver for them.
