    Krul
    Janmaat
Santon (poor but Haidara and Dummett look poor - Haidara can't defend, shocking vs Malaga, Dummett can but offers nothing attacking wise)
Willo (best of a very poor trio)
    Colo
    Tiote
    Anita
    SDJ
    Cabella
    Sissoko
    Riviere

I'd maybe drop Sissoko for Gouffran as he is a bit lazy.

    4-4-1-1

    Krul

    Janmaat Mbiwa Colo Haidara

    Cabella Sissoko Tiote Gouffran

    De Jong

    Manu

Subs: Elliot, Dummett, Colback, bigirimana, Aarons, Perez, Chucky

A bit of talent here but the depth leaves a bit to be desired and the defense especially looks suspect, even vulnerable.

I think Sissoko is crucial for the engine room. For me he delivered more to the team last year than Gouff.

Santon is crocked isn't he? So I'd probably go with Dummett at LB.

Maybe Colback rather than Anita for a bit more of a robust centre midfield, but otherwise I agree with your selection. I hope Janmaat is going to be ready for the start of the season.

Don't think he's on our books. Is he a left back?

Hope not but nobody really knows who will be 1st choice to partner Coloccini. Taylor usually misses half the season injured anyway

Hopefully not. However unless we sign someone the calamity duo (Saylor and Mbiwa) will start games. Colo is 32/33 and therefore will pick up up injuries. Willo is our most dependable centre back, which with all due respect to him, is telling. We are poor defensively.

Him or Haidara and the latter looks terrible defensively. Doesn't seem to understand the value of coming round on the cover or closing down the wide man. He just lets crosses come into the box and gives them plenty of time to get quality on it. I think we may have signed a duffer there personally. Dummett is not good enough either. He is better defensively by some distance but he offers nothing going forward. Then you have Santon who is injured anyway and can't defend. I think we are shocking at left full back and centre back. Any aspirations of getting towards the top 8 will be broken by our defensive woes.

Add in that Tiote is no better than decent. We should have went and got that holding midfielder from Chile. Marcelo Diaz. Plays for Basel. Never gives the ball away and has a "thou shalt not pass" attitude to protection of the defence.

I'm concerned by us. I understand there being quite a bit of enthusiasm after 7 signings. Even taking our average manaqer out of the equation, I think we have poor defensive options. We look set to concede a lot of goals regardless of manager looking at it on paper. I don't think we have any guarantee of scoring goals either. We lack a ball playing midfielder. I think we have a really good options in the attacking midfield area, I think we have decent options for the central midfield (bar ball playing).

I basically don't think our team/squad is all that good.

I agree, but Gouffran undoubtedly puts in a better shift. Sissoko may be worth another go centrally at some stage now he is getting used to the pace of the game here. However any lack of effort is cruelly exposed in the PL as he found out last time. Sissoko's legs on the break is important to us.

You've forgotten to squeeze HBA in there. I know, I know - it would be a squeeze to fit him in anywhere but hey, he's your favourite player so surely you have to try.

Sorry I forgot all about him. yes he must be shoe horned in at the expense of the team. He is so good we could probably play wtih 10 really. I'm pretty sure there will be maximum weights for teams nowadays anyway, so someone will have to go to accomodate the living legend.
