I've been his biggest fan the past few years but I get the feeling Davis in goal does not inspire much confidence in the defence. He's a great shot-stopper and top servant to the club but I'd be open to replacing him if a better, younger alternative became available.

Our side lacks experience. I would look at getting an experienced centre back to strengthen the squad.

I'd also be keen on bringing in an experienced, industrious, been-there-and-done-it central midfielder. I just think despite their talent, Cork and Morgan can go missing at times and Hammond is not the man for this role.

A right-winger with pace would also be good. It would give the side another dimension.

A pacy forward up front in the Maynard mould would be good. I can't believe at £2.2m we aren't sniffing about. Roberto Martinez is a great young manager but surely playing for Southampton is a better proposition than signing for Wigan to get battered every week in the PL? Haven't seen much of him but maybe Lee can play this role... if he ever actually arrives.

A target-man forward would also be good. It's plain to see we struggle when Rickie isn't playing. It would be nice to have another option to keep RL on his toes and give him the odd rest here and there as well...
