I was obviously gutted when Cantona stole in with the header in extra time where some players had grown a beard waiting for the final whistle, embarrassed by Vauxhall Motors and left empty when we lost in the play off final... why did you shoot Williams ?? just play it across...grrrrr but we were not good enough and that was why we lost so could take it on the chin so to speak. My lowest moment was just last season when knowing what depended on the game a Mr J Barton dragged the club down with his stupid antics..... was proud of the other players but all I was aksed was about Barton.... not the effort, that Mackie header .... so for me that was my low.
I have a few that spring to mind! Not in any particular order. 1) Vauxhall motors obviously 2) Playing in League 1 and watching us lose 1-0 to Oxford. Ill never forget that thinking what the hell am I bothering for. Summed up those years. 3) Play of final at Cardiff loss in there own bag yard. That was a long trip home! 4) Death of our most promising talent at the time Ray Jones.
oh yeah, and the Cantana equaliser as well. Only game I ever cried at. Apart from when we won promotion back to the Prem but that was different tears
Yep all classics but for me it's recent The day NW signed Barton I thought he is not a QPR style player All my hopes were dashed as NW ****ed up a winning team who I still stand would have finished higher than the other two . NW great as long as you don't give Him too much money Very flat as it all blew up at the time I just knew it was ruined
United equalizer in the 96th minute, 1996. The way United were and are treated by Ref's is a disgrace. It was a disgrace then and its a disgrace now.
That really was a day to forget, I've posted on here before saying that was the one & only match I ever took my wife to see! We were awful. Had lots of downs over the years, but my first taste of what life was going to be like as as R's fans came when we were relegated in 1969 from the old first division. We went down with a record low points tally of 18. If I remember correctly we won 3 or 4 home games and none away. The worst of all was losing 8-1 at Old Trafford, and 4-0 at home to Chelsea. We've come a long way!
Quite a few bad moments footbal wise but when I read that Ollie had to pay for the pre-match meals from his own pocket (before Colchester game I think) because we had no money, I really thought the club was gone.
I was at the Milk Cup final in 1986 and to lose 3-0 was hard but the worst day for me was the play off final defeat against Cardiff. I lived in Spain at the time and watched the match in a local bar. When the final whistle went, I was numb. I walked around for hours afterwards in a complete daze. At one stage, I remember looking over some cliffs and thinking, will I???? The pain I felt was that bad.
Being taught how to play football by Vauxhall Motors at Loftus Road, that was hard to take. Although admittedly I did sit on a toilet with my head in my hands for 15 minutes throughout half time of the QPR-City game. I was fully convinced we were going down . Losing the faith...the worst sin.
Norwich 76 - A win and we would have been champions. Went to Wolves for the Liverpool game only to see them score 3 times in last 15 minutes to nick the title. Oxford 86 - That was just embarassing The whole of our first ever season in the top flight, 18 points, we were so far out of our depth Admin, Vauxhall Motors, 5 managers in a season, so so many....... But now total optimism
For me it had to be relegation from the prem. I was working alongside a Man City fan....the ****e the two of us got from the Liverpools, Uniteds etc etc has always been a sore point for me.
And yet the two of us combined to ruin United's day on the final game of last season. Karma's a bitch!
Briatore's return after we'd won the Championship last year. You just knew things were about to fall apart but from those lofty heights of ecstasy, you half believed he'd smell the coffee and leave well alone. Did he ****! Hence all the mayhem last season. Some call him Sadim, the backward Midas: everything Briatore touches turns to ****!
Sort of runs onto my Barton stuff but 100% right Bricktop there was this feeling that we would be OK if no one buggered about. People don't blame NW they blame Briatore ... It was a low point after the championship title as it went flat and I got the overall sense of wasted opportunity ... then NW panicked ( Jason Puncheon!!!) ... but haven't we done well since so no point dwelling as TF saw that opportunity and by god is he performing or what?
All the above plus coming thru the turnstiles and putting money in those plastic buckets.I didnt think we would get thru that.
You never knew we were in a cup final in '86? We've hardly been in dozens of cup finals to not know of one. Southend away for me was pretty bad. Schlepped down there after school to see us thumped and doomed to relegation, or so we thought. Carlisle and Langley being stretchered off against Fulham was pretty awful too.
Milk Cup final, as a kid I was sure we were going to win and then got thumped by a lower division side. As a result I have never got excited by anything until its actually happened.
