Mine go back to when I started going in 1977, interested to see any additions from others from any generation (as long as you actually saw them play for us).

Strangely, it gets harder to come up with players from about 2006 onwards. Doesn't that say something?
 
Terry Naylor, he was proper naughty. Marcus Bent was a proper twat. Alan Pardew has got a proper big nose.I could go on. The players I admired the most from my time watching Charlton are Charlie Wright, Bob Curtis, Phil Warman, Alan Campbell, Paul Went, Harry Gregory, Ray Treacy, Matt Tees, Graham Moore, Keith Peacock, John Hewie, Eddie Firmani, Derek Hales, Mark Kinsella, Clive Mendonca, Scott Parker, King Arthur Horsfield, Nicky Johns, Alan Simonson, Darren Bent, John Humphrey, Paul Walsh, Mike Flanagan, Robert Lee, Bob Bolder, Brian Kinsey, Len Glover, Andy Hunt, Claus Jensen.

Good list, Dick.

One omission that immediately sprang to mind was John Sewell, although on checking Wikipedia I was surprised to find he played more times for Palace than for us. Also never knew he became NASL "Coach of the Year" in 1975.

From more recent times, I would add Richard Rufus, Stuart Balmer ("he has the distinction of being the first outfield player in the English league to be allocated the squad number 1" says Wiki), John Robinson, and Garry Nelson, who also wrote one of the most genuine footballing autoboigraphies. "Left Foot Forward".

Some good names in there, although not sure Allan Simonsen always gave 100% for us <laugh>

He reminded me of a Royal Opera House ballerina performing alongside 10 hod carriers.
 
Am beyond shocked that no one has mentioned Steve Brown... that save at Aston Villa ensured that for one more week we had a fighting chance of survival

Would add Yann Kermorgant and Michael Morrison from recent seasons

Wasn't it Curbs who talked about only signing someone who was a "Charlton Player"? I don't remember anyone asking him what exactly he meant, the expression spoke for itself. SCP used the same term. There were an awful lot of them at The Valley in Curbs' time!

A special mention for Steve Gritt who still turns up sometimes at Sparrows Lane to see how the kids are coming on, even though the club severed links with him.

John Sewell was just coming to the end of his career with us when i first went to the Valley.

There are a lot of other players i really liked like Rufus, Ritchie Bowman, Billy Bonds, Paul Elliott, Roy Matthews, Brian Tocknell, Mike Kenning, Mike Bailey, Peter Shirtlifter, Mark Reid, Steve Thompson, Paul Williams
 
I always appreciated Steve Jones' endeavour.

One day he was mixing paints for a living, the next he was playing a pivotal role in our play-off final win at Wembley.

Well said on Gritty. Despite getting a rough deal off Murray at the time, he is a lovely bloke who literally bleeds Charlton. Never wants the headlines or hogs the limelight for his own ego either, unlike some of our recent managers. A real proper Charlton man is Gritty.<cheers>

I've only covered an approximately ten year period in the 60's and 70's..... and these are just names off the top of my head. If I really thought about it I could name many more. All these players I can recall doing something good in a Charlton shirt. It's a shame some moved on too soon.

Only one player I really wish we'd never signed and I was glad to see leave not soon enough: Paul Hince. He didn't want to come to Charlton, he wasn't happy here, he didn't try and when he was a radio DJ back in his beloved Manchester, the only time he ever spoke of Charlton was to slag us off. Not liked and certainly not missed.
 
I did just think of some from 2006 onwards (Daily, Bailey, Yann, Morro) but when you compare them against the 'proper' players of yesteryear I would look stupid.
