Last 5 years he hasn't been too bad. 19 goals, 8 assists in 38 games. A goal every 2 games was always a very good return. 11/12 5 goals, 4 assists in 8 games 10/11 4 goals in 7 games 09/10 4 goals, 2 assists in 9 games 08/09 1 goals, 2 assist in 7 games 07/08 5 goals in 7 games
why 10? Surely the whole season is just a reasonable argument and supports consistency. I'm just not sure how you think Rooney has been one of the top 10 players in Europe this season.
Fine then, take it back to last season aswell. Suarez was player of the tournament in the Copa America. He'd still be up there.
Because before today Rooney had scored 11 in his last 11. Just joking. I'll get Matth or Shwan to do one with their own convenient parameters. Guaranteed ten United players then. With the mighty Anderson top.
This. Ultimately all these types of threads are is an effort to try and claim your own players rank next to the best in the world and put them ahead of rival team's players. Pretty much everyone's ranking will be the obvious ones (Ronaldo, Messi, RVP, Xavi, Iniesta), the partisan ones (Suarez, Mata, Rooney), and then the one's they've heard of who they think are doing quite well. There's pretty much no objective basis to any of it, even looking at the "World XI" last year shows you even the professional coaches and journos can't put partizan bias and media hype aside when trying to come up with a list. The struggles some people have to fill out their top ten after the obvious and the partisan ones just shows how pointless the whole exercise is. Thus far we've had Wilshere (not even Arsenal's best midfielder this season), Gomez (not even one of Bayern's five top players this season) and Chiellini (arguably not Juve's best defender this season).
Can't vouch for Gomez but I've been watching Juve a fair bit (especially when they were in our group) and Chiellini has been class, he was injured a couple of months back and they've been missing him. Not sure how you think Mata or Suarez are purely partisan, they've more or less carried their respective teams and are bagging goals and assists for fun. Certainly been the best in the PL along with RVP. Real haven't been doing brilliantly this season which is why there's a distinct lack of Madrid players in it, Barca/Bayern/Juve are top of their league and if you look at stats you'll see how well the players mentioned from them have been doing. Muller for instance, probably been the best player in the bundesliga this season.
Swarbs... I mentioned Wilshire in my piss take list. I also said Coutinho and Johnny Evans Agree with your point though, these threads are a bit 'my dad is bigger than yours'
I think you are reading a little too much into it. If it was designed to place our players ahead of our rivals players then the fact most Liverpool fans (all but one) have put Van Persie ahead of Suarez kind of defeats the purpose (according to you) doesn't it? Seemed to me like it was just a thread for people to discuss who the form players are of this season? The only time it turned into something partisan was when a Man Utd fan got extremely upset that Rooney wasn't in his team, then started complaining about the thread as a whole. As for the people struggling to fill their top ten? Probably because they don't watch much foreign football and are going on what they saw last season in the champions league/euros? Hence the inclusion of people like Gomez etc.
Mine were in order. Welbeck followed by Cleverley. Every other player on the planet pales into insignificance when compared to the Red Titans so no need to even list another 8. Welbeck Cleverley In that order.
1. Messi 2. Iniesta 3. Ronaldo 4. Ribery (surpised no one picked him) 5. Falcao 6. Xavi 7. RVP 8. Suarez 9. Ibra 10. Pirlo Omitted Bale though, He's inconsistent and 'over-hyped' by the media when ever he performs well, putting him in the same class as Messi and Ronaldo-which is just stupid- but totally ignores his poor showings. He's scored in 3 consecutive games for the 1st time in his career, that says a lot. Honestly i'm a big admirer of Rooney , but he's not been at his best this season. Though generally i think he could be considered one of the top 6 players.
