He's done it in every single league/team he's played in. Even during his worst spell at Barca he was still bagging a goal every two games in a side that played nowhere near his strengths. Class player, people only say he's overrated because he's a bit of a prick. Anyway, I still wouldn't put Rooney in the top 10 players THIS season. Bale is in with a shout though.
I'd rather one Rooney in my squad than five Ibrahmovic. Bale is currently playing at a level to be comfortably rated in that top ten. I would have also have Schweinteiger in as a top cm. I didn't realise this was only on current form though?
Yeah, top line of OP. Rooney is a great player but there have been better than him in the PL let alone Europe this season! Wow, first line very bold!
You talk about rose-tinted glasses. That comment, it's completely pink. Ibra has proven in 4 different leagues that he is a proven goal scorer and is genuinely a world class talent.
Yet by premier league standard, I don't think he features in the top 10 in the world. He's 5th in the premier league for goals + assists, frankly for him thats off form.
By premier league standard? Is that supposed to be bad? I'm guessing that's the standard that's making you think Suarez is nailed on top five. What standard are we basing this on then, French league? Or is the Italian league suddenly deemed better? Zlatan had one ok season is Spain in a team that I accept are are better than United, that's all. He's never won a european trophy, Rooney has. League title wise I would suggest they're about equal.
Ha ha, just read the title of this thread. You do actually mean this minute current form. No Michu then? He's flavour of the month isn't he?
1) Messi 2) Ronaldo 3) Van Persie 4) Iniesta 5) Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6) Luis Suarez 7) Falcao 8) Bale 9) Mata 10) Sergio Ramos Yes I believe Ibra is overrated. I never considered him a world beater however this season he has been immense both domestically and Internationally (He used to be awful internationally). Granted there hasn't been many internationals to judge by though.
He actually said this season. On topic: 1. Messi 2. Xavi 3. Ronaldo 4. Iniesta 5. Xabi Alonso 6. Falcao 7. Van Persie 8. Suarez 9. Busquets 10. Cavani
Yet 1st in the PL for goals + assists per game. 18 in 17 games - even RVP isn't that high with 24 in 23 games. And like you say, that's Rooney being 'off form', and not even being our main striker...
What? If you'd read the thread, Ze quoted Zlatan's record as evidence as to why he is so good without even mentioning Rooney's. Which is why I said what you just quoted.
I have read the thread! And you dismissed Ibra's record this season, despite it being excellent. So I asked why does Ibra's record not speak for itself, while Rooney's does?
Because this season he is playing in France. Which is not by even anyone's imagination one of the top leagues is Europe. Goal a game in France, goal every other game every where else. Which Rooney matches no problem. If it's only based on this season it just seems a rather convenient way of putting Suarez in a world top ten. Why not just base it on the last ten games? That's nice and convenient. Rooney, goal a game then. He's been injured for spells this season.
Ibrahimovic's record speaks for itself. It's only because he's had a few rubbish games in the champ league against English opposition that anyone doubts him - even then he tore Arsenal to peices a couple of years ago and has been banging them in for Sweden his whole career (remember the overhead kick agaisnt England?!) He's won the league in his last 8 seasons with 5 different clubs, could say but yes he was at the best team at that time but you only get to play for the best teams in 3 different countries if you are a top player.
He's also been class in the Champs league and international. Disagree regarding french league too, behind Spain, Ourselves, Germany and Italy yes but still got some class players there.
