I aren't too sure about the boxes, I personally haven't had any dealings with them so I wouldn't like to say. There would, I assume, be some terms and conditions regarding their use.
One of my mates who was late to start driving had a black box in his first year, he had a curfew, can't remember what time it was. I'd imagine it would probably be an optional term for a further reduction rather than compulsory given people work and need to commute all hours but that's just a guess.
The black boxes measure speed, braking, cornering etc and if you drive carefully can result in a 50% rebate on the insurance premium. When they first came out, they had an 8.00pm curfew on them, but I'm not sure they have this any more.
My pals wasn't that early, was either 11 or 12, I had to give him a lift home once or twice when we were out late. But he was in his twenties so it could have been more relaxed. It was about 3 or 4 years ago I think.
Has anyone passed their test later in life, say over 40? I wonder what those insurance premiums are like these days? I'm guessing young people are penalised just for being young, and therefore reckless and irresponsible. Personally I'd like to see a much harder driving test, maybe lasting all day and including night and motorway driving. This way we might get better drivers, fewer accidents and deaths, and maybe, just maybe, lower insurance premiums all round.
I'd add in a visit to the morgue, or better, an autopsy in progress, to try and stop the selfish ****ers who think it's fine to drive after a few drinks. I'd also put the ****s in prison if they still drink and drive.
Nevermind better drivers, there wouldn't be any new drivers. Have you seen how long the waiting list is for a 45 minute driving test? If it took a few hours, you'd have to book them when you were born, and you'd only get one shot at it ready or not.
